The New York Milk Bank Announces Appointment of New Executive Director, Linda Harelick, MBA, DrPH

VALHALLA, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- The New York Milk Bank (NYMB), founded six years ago, today announced the appointment of its new Executive Director, Linda Harelick, MBA, DrPH. Established in 2016, NYMB was founded by Julie Bouchet-Horwitz, NP and four other dedicated women with the purpose of providing life-saving donor human milk for premature and sick infants. Since its inception, through the generosity of milk donors, NYMB has dispensed nearly 1,000,000 ounces of pasteurized donor human milk to hospitals for infants throughout the tri-state area. In addition to hospitals, NYMB has also been able to provide for full-term healthy infants without access to their own mother's breast milk.

"Given our tremendous growth over the past five years and the increasing demand for donor human milk, we are ready to take the organization to the next level and pass the baton to Dr. Linda Harelick. She comes to us with a wealth of experience from both the private and non-profit sectors. Her passion, background, and knowledge will be a tremendous asset to NYMB," stated Bouchet-Horwitz.

Bouchet-Horwitz will remain the President of the NYMB Board of Directors as well as the Tissue Bank Director in order to continue the milk bank's vision and purpose, while returning to her private breastfeeding practice full time.

Harelick's interest in social impact stems from her early work as a registered dietitian seeing first-hand how environmental, cultural, and societal factors influenced one's health. With ambitions to transition to management, she received an MBA from Columbia Business School. This led to a career at Kraft Foods, overseeing strategic planning and marketing for Maxwell House Coffee and Post Cereal, culminating in leading Global Consumer Services. With a desire to return to the work of health promotion, she received a doctorate in public health from New York Medical College and became director of operations and communications at ChildObesity180 at Tufts University. Here she combined her management expertise with public health knowledge to accelerate the transformation of a start-up nonprofit to a leading organization in childhood obesity prevention. Continuing her focus on improving health outcomes of children and families, she moved to Harlem Children's Zone, where she was charged with replicating the successful Healthy Harlem program in multiple communities throughout the country.

"I am beyond excited and honored for the opportunity to lead such an important organization as The New York Milk Bank. My career spans several sectors and by blending my public health knowledge and my business expertise, the already impressive growth that the milk bank has achieved will be accelerated. I look forward to engaging with staff, donors, the board, and volunteers to ensure that infants in need receive safely pasteurized donor human milk and are able to reach their full potential," remarked Linda.

ABOUT THE NEW YORK MILK BANK

The New York Milk Bank (NYMB) is a non-profit organization that collects extra breast milk from healthy lactating women. The milk is then pasteurized and distributed to babies in need throughout the Tri-State area. Since opening in 2016, NYMB has screened over 4500 donors and distributed nearly 1,000,000 ounces of donor milk. NYMB is dedicated to improving the health and survival of infants in need by ensuring the quality and availability of pasteurized donor human milk if mother's own milk is unavailable or insufficient. We are committed to reducing health disparities by advocating for the use and reimbursement of donor milk.

While most mothers of newborns produce enough milk, mothers of premature and sick infants often have difficulty providing adequate amounts of milk. The use of pasteurized donor human milk from mothers who produce more than is needed for their own children is recommended by the World Health Organization, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Surgeon General, and the NYS Commissioner of Health.

Share the Excitement of Fashion Week with ‘Meet a Scientologist: George Kalajian’

NEW YORK, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- February 11-16 is Fashion Week when the world's top designers present their new collections in New York. The Scientology Network takes viewers behind the scenes of New York's frenetic fashion industry as a master craftsman helps designers solve last-minute dilemmas.

"The last two weeks before fashion week are completely insane," says George Kalajian, the industry's go-to expert for pleating. "We love creative designers - designers who like to push the envelope. But they are always designing in the 11th hour."

Kalajian literally wrote the book on pleating - an art that dates to the Egyptian pharaohs and is used today by some of the world's hottest fashion designers. His roots in the garment industry go back generations, but Kalajian once turned his back on the family business.

His episode of Meet a Scientologist is the story of his turnaround - how Scientology helped him repair a strained relationship with his father and ignite his passion and purpose.

In the process, the quality of his work elevated him into the upper echelons of the fashion industry, with his creations showcased on runways, in film - even in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Meet a Scientologist is an in-depth look into the lives of individual Scientologists from the frontiers of art, business, science, sports, entertainment and more. It is one of eight original series airing on the Scientology Network.

Since launching with a special episode featuring Scientology ecclesiastical leader Mr. David Miscavige, the Scientology Network has been viewed in 240 countries and territories worldwide in 17 languages. Experimental producer Jlin releases new course on rhythm and creativity with online music school Soundfly

BROOKLYN, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- Music education platform Soundfly and experimental producer and composer Jlin have teamed up to launch an online course covering Jlin's artistic process and approach to creating groundbreaking rhythmic music. Jerrilynn Patton, who performs as Jlin, came up through the Midwest's footwork scene, and has evolved into one of the most innovative electronic producers working today. "Jlin: Rhythm, Variation, & Vulnerability" is available as part of Soundfly's subscription library of creative music courses. The course provides an inspiring look at how Jlin thinks about music production and seeks to help upcoming artists pinpoint and nurture the unique elements in their own sound.

Jlin is a constantly-transforming electronic artist whose work carries a complex, unpredictable rhythmic signature. Music publication Pitchfork has called Jlin's work "a gorgeous and overwhelming piece of musical architecture, an epic treatise on where rhythm comes from and where it can go," and Spin magazine described it as "the future of progressive club music."

Pitchfork has put all three of her full-length releases on their Best New Music and Best Electronic Music lists. Jlin's collaborators include musical artists Björk, St. Vincent, Martin Gore, Max Richter, choreographer Wayne MacGregor, and many more. Her driving, percussive music is used extensively for dance and fashion, with placements in Paris Fashion Week shows for Rick Owens, Chanel, Burberry, and Adidas.

"Jlin: Rhythm, Variation, & Vulnerability" features 16 videos, along with readings, practical exercises, creative prompts, and a Slack group for feedback and support. The course takes a high-level look at the role that vulnerability plays in Jlin's music-making and how embracing difficult creative moments can fuel originality. Students will come away with a more profound understanding of rhythmic variation and the inspiration to make their own music less predictable.

Soundfly CEO Ian Temple said of making the course, "Jlin's mindset and approach are unlike any we've presented on Soundfly before. Her process is deeply vulnerable and painstakingly precise, which leads to a sound that's brimming with complex ideas. I hope students will walk away with a new perspective on how to keep their music fresh and surprising."

Describing her intention behind the course, Jlin said, "I want to share my journey with other artists as honestly as I can. I see the hurdles you encounter in making music as some of the most important parts of the process. I think it's crucial to share that struggle. In this course, I'm exploring my process as vulnerably as I can. I hope that something in my journey helps other artists in their own."

Pure Transplant Solutions, LLC and Vall d’Hebron University Hospital Announce Research Collaboration

AUSTIN, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- Pure Transplant Solutions, LLC (PTS), a collaboration driven biotechnology company focused on the development of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-based diagnostics and therapeutics within the field of transplantation, is proud to announce that it has entered into a research collaboration with Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus to develop new technologies for B-cell monitoring in transplant rejection.

The research is being led by Drs. Oriol Bestard and Rico Buchli and focuses on the detection of alloreactive memory B cells for pre-transplant risk stratification and post-transplant monitoring. Recognition of non-self HLA gives rise to the formation of HLA-specific memory B cells which precede circulating HLA antibodies. Importantly, such HLA-specific memory B cells can be present even in the absence of detectable serum antibodies, being an additional rejection risk factor in transplantation. Memory B cells are responsible for immunological recall responses by differentiating into antigen-specific antibody-producing cells upon re-encounter with a miss-matched antigen.

"This collaboration with PTS validates the tremendous need for appropriate and routinely applicable assays to detect and visualize the presence and HLA specificity of alloreactive memory B cells in solid organ transplant patients, which may ultimately help improve current alloimmune-risk stratification," Dr. Bestard stated.

"Today, the immunological risk of an individual transplant patient is mainly assessed by detection of HLA antibodies in the serum, which are produced by long lived bone marrow-residing plasma cells. At PTS, we envision that in addition to serum HLA antibody detection, HLA-specific memory B cell assays will serve as supplemental tools to determine risk factors and help improve individual patient management," said Dr. Buchli.

Steve Mayer MD, Chief Medical Officer at PTS stated, "We're very excited about the potential of this technology because it allows a very early diagnostic view of an individual's risk of rejection before any graft damage has occurred. Also, the technology is likely to have a significant impact on clinical utility with high predictive values."

Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival Returns to Mesquite

MESQUITE, Texas /ScoopCloud/ -- Looking forward to spring fishing? Who isn't? Fortunately for those of us still stuck in winter, the 5th annual Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival is headed to Mesquite on February 26-27, 2022.

Unique to the Texas Fly & Brew is a focus on microbrewery beer. With their paid admission, festival attendees 21 years and older receive tasting tickets to sample a variety of locally handcrafted brews. Breweries selected to participate in this year's event include Four Corners Brewing Co, Hop & Sting, and Tupps. All of the participating breweries will have personnel on hand to explain what sets microbrewed beer apart, why and how certain ingredients yield different flavors, and how to brew and taste different types of beer.

New to the 2022 Texas Fly & Brew is a series of advanced courses for experienced anglers. "We're well-known as a safe space for complete novices--those folks who have never picked up a fly rod in their lives," says Fly & Brew Director Beau Beasley. "Our event draws scores of children, and we have about six times the national average for women's participation, compared to other fishing events. This year, we're stepping up our game to draw experienced anglers, too, with unique, highly specialized courses taught by regional and national experts."

"Advanced Tactics for Fishing Tailwaters" with author and guide Pat Dorsey focuses on how to correctly fish below dams and in cold water rivers.

Full-time saltwater guide Captain Gary Dubiel, owner of Spec Fever Guide Service and a national pro-staffer for Temple Fork Outfitters, offers his unique "How to Locate and Land Monster Redfish ,"a class specifically designed for those who hope to land the redfish of a lifetime.

Interested in fly tying? Fiber Flies Dubbing owner Jim Bensinger will teach a "Beginner Fly Tying" class as well as a "How to Tie Wet Flies" class for intermediate to advanced fly tyers. No gear? No problem: All vises and materials will be provided by Norvise, which is sponsoring Bensinger's classes.

In cooperation with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation's Take Me Fishing Program, professional guide Karlie Roland will offer a women-only "Becoming an Independent Angler" to help women hone their angling skills and meet their outdoor goals. Don't miss the "Breakfast Meet & Greet" with Karlie and other female anglers, which is open to the public but limited to the first 50 women who sign up online.

The Texas Fly & Brew has partnered with Chris Johnson, owner of Living Waters Fly Shop, to offer a variety of classes specific to the Lone Star State.

HERE ARE A FEW COURSES AVAILABLE TO ALL GENERAL ADMISSION ATTENDEES:

"A Man, a Fly Rod & a Kayak," taught by experienced fly fishing guide Jerry Hamon, owner of River Crossing Fly Fishing Guide Service, is for all who hope to fish safely from a kayak. Don't have a kayak yet but looking for pointers on what to buy? Hamon will cover kayak purchasing as well.

At the "Women's Panel: Ask an Expert" class, Dana Williams, former president of Texas Women Fly Fishers, will answer questions from the audience. Cybil Jones of Dagon Apparel Company will discuss how the right clothing will keep you on the water longer and make your fishing experience more enjoyable. Other guest speakers may participate.

New Mexico-based Ron Kless, competitive angler and a Hardy pro-staffer, will be presenting "Euro Nymphing: The Do's & Don'ts."

Looking for just the right kayak? Check out regional pro-staffers from Dallas-based Mariner-Sails.

"This is our 5th annual Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival, but actually anglers and vendors come from across the entire country," says Beasley. "Mesquite has done all it can to make us feel welcome and we look forward to partnering with them again. The spacious Mesquite Convention Center provides more room for vendors and sponsors and even allows specialty food trucks. A wide variety of specialty fly tyers will also be participating."

The Texas Fly Fishing & Brew Festival was honored to receive several first-place awards in various categories from the 2022 meeting of the Texas Festival & Events Association.

"Our strong showing is thanks in large part to support from Mesquite, our amazing event team, and our excellent social media manager, Cece Liekar of The League Lady," says Beasley. "I accepted the awards on behalf of the Texas Fly & Brew team, but it was definitely a group labor of love to hold the first in-person fly-fishing event in the country since the pandemic. We had a very strong turnout in February 2021, and we expect to set a new record for vendors and attendance in 2022."

Major sponsors of the 5th Annual Texas Fly & Brew include the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, Gangler's North Seal River Lodge, City of Mesquite, Temple Fork Outfitters, Trout Unlimited, Norvise and Fly Tyer.

Commemorative Coin Debuts to Celebrate Juneteenth National Independence Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- Juneteenth Unlimited, LLC is excited to introduce the release of a commemorative coin to celebrate a new Federal holiday - Juneteenth - inspired by the African Diaspora, Black American history and the fight for freedom. Made of one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, this inspirational coin is for anyone who wants a valuable keepsake to memorialize this significant new holiday.

June 19, 1865, marks the date that the last known African-American slaves were freed. As a result, it's become one of the most important days in African-American history. This commemorative coin will honor and remember the African-American forefathers and mothers who suffered throughout the history of the trans-Atlantic slavery system.

What makes it a fascinating coin is the use of a Swahili word - Nahuona: "I see you." Careful thought and consideration were put into the use of this word. The concept may present one of the best ways to acknowledge empathy and compassion for all humanity. Juneteenth Unlimited is also delighted to use a West African Kente textile art design. The reverse side has an image of Frederick Douglass, a former slave who became a famed abolitionist.

In addition to the holiday marking the last known day slaves were freed, Juneteenth serves to remind people that humans have an incredible capacity to heal and emerge from their darkest moments with hope and purpose. This coin represents how people had to rise from the ashes and acquire freedom.

Beverly David Robinson, owner, Juneteenth Unlimited, is also the coin's designer and is committed to honoring the past while creating a brighter future. She hopes that all Americans will acknowledge the significance and power that Juneteenth holds.

"Precious metals have proven to have financial stability throughout history," she says. "This coin will hold its value for present and future generations. It's time to rejoice and celebrate history with one of these cherished coins."

The Lowell Chamber Orchestra combines innovation, tradition, in latest offering

LOWELL, Mass. /ScoopCloud/ -- On Saturday, February 19, the Lowell Chamber Orchestra will become a vessel through which works explore the concept of new and old. "Antique Modernity" is a concert that revolves around Dana Kaufman's brand new work, written specifically for the Lowell Chamber Orchestra, and works by Francis Poulenc, Georg Philip Telemann, and Jean Philip Rameau, that challenge our concepts of contemporary and traditional.

Dana Kaufman's "Greyed Rainbow" was commissioned by the Lowell Chamber Orchestra and written in 2021. When asked about her inspiration for the work, Kaufman says "I considered the concept of 'Antique Modernity' in the context of the past two years of the COVID pandemic: what do we now consider 'antique,' and what do we now consider 'modern?' What is old, and what is new? I thought of a communal melancholy, a sense of optimism, and a continued surrealness in our daily lives."

An art connoisseur, Kaufman continues: "On a visit in 2021 to the Art Institute of Chicago (in my hometown), I saw what I thought to be a fitting exploration of this 'old and new' reflected in Jackson Pollock's Greyed Rainbow. Jackson Pollock's Abstract Expressionist work, which bridges traditional and contemporary 20th-century aesthetics in visual art, has always resonated with me. One of the painting's elements that I find particularly striking is its use of palettes that may initially appear to conflict with one another. Approximately two thirds of the painting is starkly monochromatic, while the bottom third of the painting incorporates hints of several colors. Pollock's work connects bleakness and solace."

The program starts with Francis Poulenc's "Suite Française d'après Claude Gervaise," a collection of Renaissance tunes. In 1935, Poulenc arranged (with his personal touch) a few dances in Claude Gervaise's "Livre de Danceries" for an unusual combination of winds, brass and percussion instruments - "unusual" for our times, but probably common during Gervaise's time.

The concert will continue with a concerto for two instruments seldom seen together: recorder, and transverse flute. Written by Georg Philip Telemann, this is the only concerto to make use of this combination, conceived at a time when the orchestras of the time were growing, and the sweet sound of the recorder was slowly being replaced by the traverso - the Baroque equivalent of the modern flute.

The end of the program is a suite from the opera "Castor et Pollux," by Jean-Philippe Rameau, which tells the fantastic origins of the constellation Gemini. The music, which at the time was designed to be arranged for whatever instruments were available at a given ensemble, finds a modern design in LCO's brand new orchestration. The suite will be accompanied with a slideshow that will tell the story of the opera.

The concert is free to attend, as always. Attendees will be able to meet composer Dana Kaufman. For more information, please visit https://lowellchamberorchestra.org/

Super Bowl Commercial Highlights Lightning’s Danger and Lasting Impact on Survivors

CUMBERLAND, Maine /ScoopCloud/ -- A commercial expected to air during Sunday's Super Bowl has caught the attention of the National Lightning Safety Council (NLSC). The ad will feature a lightning strike survivor's apparent phobia of electricity which developed after being injured while riding a motorcycle. While the humorous commercial was created for other purposes, it also provides an opportunity for the NLSC to dispel a common lightning myth and to highlight the potential long-term health effects for lightning strike survivors.

According to news reports, Seth Thomas (the victim depicted in the Super Bowl ad) and his father were injured by lightning while on a motorcycle trip in 2012.

"Many people still believe the myth that rubber tires protect you from lightning, but they do not," said John Jensenius, a lightning safety specialist with the NLSC. "It's very dangerous to be riding a motorcycle or to be involved in any other outdoor activity during a thunderstorm."

Data collected by the NLSC, cites 12 people in the U.S. as being struck and killed by lightning while motorcycling from 2006 to 2021.

According to Mary Ann Cooper, MD, international lightning safety expert and medical specialist with the NLSC, long term health effects are common with lightning-strike survivors.

"Many survivors suffer brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and chronic pain syndromes from the nerve injuries that lightning commonly causes," said Dr. Cooper. "The fear of electricity that this Super Bowl advertisement humorously portrays is not uncommon with lightning and electrical injury survivors," she explained.

The NLSC hopes the Super Bowl prime airing of the commercial will prompt conversations and spark awareness about the dangers of lightning to prevent more deaths and injuries.

"Not all lightning survivors will find this commercial funny, but sometimes humor gets the word out to certain audiences better than serious warnings," added Dr. Cooper.

The NLSC urges lightning strike survivors and families coping with the often misunderstood medical effects of these injuries to contact the Lightning Strike & Electric Shock Survivors International, a non-profit support group founded in 1989.

The National Lightning Safety Council invites educators, government officials and others to help build lightning safe communities by learning more about lightning safety, lightning protection and risk reduction.

Visit the http://www.lightningsafetycouncil.org/ for shareable information, resources and safety tips.

Inquiries about specific lightning concerns can also be addressed to Council members via contacts here: http://www.lightningsafetycouncil.com/LSC-About.html.

DataNumen Access Repair 3.9 Now Supports the Turkish Language

NEW YORK, N.Y. /ScoopCloud/ -- DataNumen company has released the new version of DataNumen Access Repair, an intuitive and efficient tool for MDB and ACCDB recovery. Version 3.9 supports Turkish in addition to English and nine other popular languages. The key advantage of DataNumen Access Repair is the exhaustive recovery of databases including password protected ones.

MS Access has gained worldwide popularity as a relational database management system that allows users to quickly set up a database and use the data for reference, analysis, and reporting. That is why many companies choose it to fulfill their business needs. However, MDB and ACCDB formats that Access uses for data storage are prone to corruption. Blackouts, hardware failures, or virus attacks may result in a damaged database that cannot be accessed. For such occasions, it is highly recommended to have a professional recovery tool in place.

DataNumen Access Repair is a pro-level solution that performs thorough scanning of the corrupt file and exhaustive recovery of all the data: records and structures (both existing and deleted), relations and queries, MEMO and OLE fields, and more. Even encrypted databases can be recovered without a password, which is why DataNumen Access Repair can be used for forensic purposes. If there are multiple damaged files, the user can save time with the help of the batch recovery feature.

One of the key advantages of DataNumen Access Repair is its intuitive and straightforward interface. It takes just a few clicks to start the recovery process. Besides, the support for multiple European and Asian languages makes it even easier. 12th Annual RVA Environmental Film Festival Free and Open to the Public February 18 – March 4, 2022

RICHMOND, Va. /ScoopCloud/ -- The Richmond Environmental Film Festival (RVA EFF) announces its 12th annual showcase of over 20 free local and national films selected to raise awareness of environmental issues and offer solution-oriented messages of hope that inspire action towards promoting planet health and environmental justice. Most of the films will be shown virtually, with six in-person events hosted by partners of the festival.

Again this year, RVA EFF held the Virginia Environmental Film Contest. First prize went to "Headwaters Down," directed by Justin Black, Will Gemma, and Dietrich Teschner. This film tells the story of five friends who undertake a 13-day, 250-mile canoe adventure from the headwaters of the James River to the fall line in Richmond. Along the way, they explore the environmental and historical aspects of the troubled yet beautiful river as they witness first-hand the many factors impacting its future.

The two second prize winners were "Breathing Life Back Into Richmond," directed by Jackie Stephens and "Canaries in the Coal Mine," written, directed and produced by Nick Garnhart. Two youth awards were also given. All five films will be shown virtually the evening of Sunday, February 20. "Headwaters Down" will also be shown at The Byrd Theater on February 27. Some of the other films featured in the festival are highlighted below.

Visit https://rvaeff.org/ for a complete listing and schedule.

The festival begins with "8 Billion Angels," hosted by James River Association. The film uses breathtaking cinematography to tell the truth about the conflict between the size of our global population and the sustainability of our planet. It inspires real solutions toward lasting sustainability and a better quality of life for all Earth's inhabitants. The Virginia Interfaith Power & Light hosts "Mossville, When Great Trees Fall," telling the story of one man who refuses to give up when his centuries-old black community, contaminated by petrochemical plants, faces the loss of its ancestral home.

The Richmond Public Library & City Office of Sustainability host "The Sacrifice Zone," following a group of environmental justice fighters determined to break the cycle of poor communities of color serving as dumping grounds for our consumer society. "High Tide in Dorchester" focuses on ground zero for sea level rise along the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay. Narrated by Kate Winslet, "Eating Our Way to Extinction" takes you on a cinematic journey around the world to uncover hard truths about the most pressing issue of our generation - ecological collapse.

The Festival Committee thanks all the major sponsors of this year's festival, including Convert Solar, Enrichmond Foundation, and Ian Patrick of Merrill Lynch.

Since 2005, After Inc. has been providing best-in-class post-sale services to the world's largest manufacturers and retailers.

In 2021, After, Inc. launched its QuickSuite platform, a modular set of SaaS technologies to help manufacturers, retailers, and e-commerce sellers build deeper relationships with their customers, increase loyalty, and drive higher lifetime value. The suite covers the entire post-sale lifecycle, and includes: QuickReg®, QuickCover®, QuickClaim®, QuickInsight®, and QuickRenew®.

"2021 was a turning point for After, Inc.," says Nate Baldwin, After, Inc.'s CEO. "We launched our QuickSuite, brought on new SaaS Product, Marketing and Sales teams, and evolved our focus from a post-sale services company to a customer experience technology company. The cost of poor customer experience is going up. That's why our QuickSuite technology is so relevant. It allows retailers and manufacturers to provide differentiated and personalized experiences at each stage of the post-sale lifecycle - from registration to product protection, claims management to personalized offers - driving higher engagement, loyalty and lifetime value."

"We want to be the global leader in post-sale customer experience technology. But what people don't realize is that After has been providing post-sale technology and services to the world's largest manufacturers for over a decade. Now with our QuickSuite, merchants, manufacturers and TPAs of any size can download our user-friendly SaaS platforms and be up and running in minutes, not months. Given the explosion of ecommerce the past two years, the market has grown, along with a stronger need for competitive differentiation. We are excited about this next phase in our company's growth trajectory."

Thelma Wright, Philadelphia’s Beloved ‘American Gangster’ Empowers a New Generation with Mentoring and Reform

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. /ScoopCloud/ -- It has been well over a decade since Thelma Wright, once reputed to be one of the most dangerous and powerful Black women in Philadelphia, came to the forefront and shocked the nation with true confessions in her memoir, "With Eyes From Both Sides - Living My Live In and Out of the Game." As the wife of Jackie Wright, a legendary heroin dealer in the city, Wright was intricately connected with the Black Mafia, a gang that operated Philly's drug trade throughout the 1970's and into the 1980's. Once widowed and left as the young mother of a toddler son, she discreetly took over his business, running a bi-coastal drug empire, unbeknownst to family and friends around her. Today however, Thelma Wright is impacting her city and the tri-state area in positive ways with her mentoring program, The Thelma Wright Empowerment Program.

Wright enjoys interacting with youth on a day-to-day basis, in an effort to steer teens and young adults away from the dangers that she once encountered, while guiding them on a positive path of personal development. "My mission is to help at-risk pre-teens and teenagers understand and maintain their self-worth. As a credible messenger, I create a foundation of confidence that empowers individuals to believe their contribution in life makes a difference," she explains.

"I care about the present and future of our communities, especially our African-American communities. I understand that in order to influence and educate, it's critical to authentically connect and relate. Our at-risk youth need to understand there are adults that care about their future and well-being. My goal is to provide the youth with the necessary guidance and tools to nurture and develop unique interpersonal relationships as well as assist each individual in their pursuit of happiness," notes Thelma Wright.

Wright's background sets her apart from the typical tales of abuse and abandonment. In fact, she is quick to acknowledge that it was the strength of good parenting and strong family ties that laid her solid foundation and saw her through her darkest days. The product of a middle working-class Black family, she attended Catholic school, was a star athlete as a child and was well provided for. It was romance and love that entangled her with one of the Black underworld's most notorious gangs.

Wright is perfectly positioned to garner all the credibility needed to effect change. She has been the subject of television documentaries, including Bio's "Gangsters: America's Most Evil" and the BET+ "American Gangster: The Trap Queens" series. Superstar recording artist/actress Mary J. Blige was even set to executive produce the USA Network drama series "Philly Reign" based on Wright's memoir, a project that lasted until the development stage. Wright was also commemorated in the special edition of Time-Life Magazine, "Women Outlaws, Their Crimes, Their Motives, Their Methods." A sought-after motivational speaker, Wright's wisdom has graced prisons, schools, youth centers and universities around the country.

In between her mentoring schedule, Wright stays busy fielding project inquiries from the entertainment industry and conducting media interviews about her life.

A Suspenseful Memoir Inspires Readers to Open Their Minds

ASHEVILLE, N.C. /ScoopCloud/ -- "No Time for Fear," a new e-book by Yvonne Haarsma, is a suspenseful page-turner that reveals how a mother and her two sons escaped an ego-driven husband while on the run across four continents and being pursued by Interpol, Mounted Police and the FBI.

This thrilling memoir starts out by setting the stage for what appeared to be a match made in heaven. However, the author quickly realizes that things are not at all what they seemed. Now, she's got to figure out how to protect herself and her two young sons from a powerful man who is charming, deceitful and filled with a thirst for revenge.

In a marriage that had reached a dead end, she was desperate for solutions. She sought the assistance of a counselor who, unbeknownst to her, showed herself to be a medium to help put things back on track. Soon, Yvonne begins to receive somewhat unbelievable messages, and is not convinced until a person very familiar to her reveals himself - her deceased grandfather, Edward.

Through messages from the other side, Edward shows her how to trade the darkness for the light and works behind the scenes to carefully guide her.

On the run for a year throughout Asia, Europe, North America and South America, Yvonne and her two boys confront extreme challenges and triumphs.

Readers will meet the many people who helped the author and learn how to trust their own inner voices.

One Amazon reviewer wrote, "This book could be a film script; all the elements are there - passion and suspense."

Another Amazon reviewer states, "Truth is definitely stranger than fiction. A truly intriguing tale, not only of survival and justice, but how our spirit guides are always looking out for us and work with us in ways we cannot always imagine or understand. We need more inspiring and eclectic stories like this."

Yvonne's main reason for writing this book is to help others find their strength and to trust what they may not always understand.

In Yvonne's words: "It was those difficult moments in my life and then the realization that our spiritual self helps to make us stronger. I've learned so much from this experience and hope it will inspire others too."
