Domaine Carneros Debuts the Sparkling Elixir Sampler

Winery Introduces Inclusive Daily Flight Featuring Sonoma's Land & Local Botanical Elixirs Available as a Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Water Option or with Ultra Brut

NAPA, Calif., July 7, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Domaine Carneros has long delighted guests with inventive food and wine experiences that reflect the winery’s commitment to culinary craft and local ingredient sourcing. The newest addition to that tradition is the Sparkling Elixir Sampler, a daily tasting flight that pairs four all-natural, handcrafted botanical elixirs from Land & Local of Sonoma County for either a non-alcoholic option with San Pellegrino sparkling water, or with the acclaimed Ultra Brut sparkling wine. This new offering makes for a fully inclusive experience for every guest at the table.

Served tableside, the flight is priced at $35 with San Pellegrino or $50 with the Ultra Brut. The four elixirs, each crafted from locally sourced seasonal botanicals, are:

Blood Orange Fennel

Rose Cardamom Meyer Lemon

Hibiscus Tulsi Ginger

Elderflower Mint

The Sparkling Elixir Sampler is available as a standalone daily tasting option and can also be selected as a non-alcoholic alternative within any of the winery’s elevated experiences: Bubbles & Bites, Plat des Perles, Ultimate Carneros, and Ultimate Caviar.

A DEEPENING TRADITION OF ARTISAN COLLABORATION

The partnership with Land & Local joins a roster of celebrated local makers whose work has shaped the Domaine Carneros guest experiences over the years, among them Pete Seghesio of Journeyman Meats, Terri and Brook Penquette of Nova Terra Creamery, Anette Madsen Yazidi of Anette’s Chocolates, and Ali and Marai Bolourchi of Tsar Nicoulai Caviar.

Land & Local founder Kim LaVere brings eight years of botanical craft to the collaboration, grounding her formulas in Ayurvedic medicine, Western herbalism, and culinary training. About 85% of the herbs and fruits she uses are sourced within 50 miles of her Sonoma County production kitchen. Her mission is to reconnect beverages to their healing roots while centering the story of place. “Our partnership is about two high-quality products that complement each other and help tell a story of place together, from different perspectives,” she says. “And our products are inclusive: they work beautifully for people who are imbibing and for people who aren’t.”

WELCOMING EVERY GUEST AT THE TABLE

The non-alcoholic option reflects both the winery’s hospitality values and a meaningful consumer shift. According to a Wine Business Monthly article in July 2024, wellness tourism which includes “dry” tourism as well as alcohol drinkers who opt out occasionally, has seen a measurable increase, with nonalcoholic offerings expanding a brand’s reach and ensuring no one sits on the sidelines.

The Ultra Brut, a highly awarded offering in the Domaine Carneros portfolio, was chosen with thoughtful consideration as the sparkling wine part of the experience. Director of Marketing, Phoebe Ullberg stated, “Our driest sparkling wine, Ultra Brut, becomes even more nuanced and complex when accented with chef Kim LaVere’s local, all natural mixers – Blood Orange Fennel, Rose Cardamom Meyer Lemon, Hibiscus Tulsi Ginger and Elderflower Mint.”

AN EVER-EVOLVING GUEST EXPERIENCE

The Sparkling Elixir Sampler takes its place alongside a portfolio of distinctive offerings that reflect the winery’s sustained investment in the gustatory pleasures of its guests. Bubbles & Bites’ seasonally rotating global menus, the recently launched Scent & Savor: A Wine Tour of Aromas and Taste Transformations, The Art of Sabrage, Plat des Perles, Ultimate Carneros, and Ultimate Caviar together define a visitor experience as thoughtfully curated as the wines themselves.

Two Senior Experts Share an Insider’s Guide to Confident Aging in New eBook, ‘A Good Life Anywhere’

Written by a long-term care ombudsman and a nationally recognized expert on ageism, the eBook offers practical guidance on care options, advocacy, and quality of life

LA VERNE, Calif., July 7, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — 3rd3rd Marketing, the “Un-Senior Living Agency” that challenges ageism in marketing, and Hillcrest Senior Living, announced the launch of “A Good Life Anywhere,” a new eBook designed to empower older adults and their families to make informed decisions about care, community, and quality of life.

"A Good Life Anywhere" by Beverly Gianna and Cynthia Thurlow.
Image caption: Written by eldercare advocate and ombudsman Beverly Gianna and senior living expert Cynthia Thurlow, “A Good Life Anywhere” examines the full spectrum of care and offers practical guidance on care options, advocacy, and quality of life from professionals who are also members of the generation they serve.

Coauthored by Beverly Gianna, a long-term care ombudsman in Louisiana and a graduate of the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, and Cynthia Thurlow, founder and CEO of 3rd3rd Marketing and a recognized expert on ageism in branding and communications, the eBook sets itself apart with the unique perspectives of its authors and provides an insider’s perspective on the senior living journey.

Both women are experienced professionals and members of the generation they serve, bringing together professional expertise and personal understanding of the opportunities and challenges that accompany aging.

The guide explores the full spectrum of senior living and care options while helping readers evaluate communities, advocate for quality care, explore alternatives, and access resources that support independence and well-being.

Hillcrest is home to nearly 400 residents, many of whom are solo agers and living independently, across its 50-acre continuing care retirement campus in southern California.

“We often talk to prospective residents about when is the right time to move and how to do it,” said Shirley Turner, Director of Sales and Marketing at Hillcrest. “A Good Life Anywhere is an excellent guidebook for the next step in the journey, as it outlines how to choose the right community, explore alternatives, advocate for quality care, and understand the role of the local ombudsman.”

“Living in a senior community or nursing home should never mean losing one’s sense of purpose,” said Gianna. “My work as an ombudsman, combined with my education and lived experience, has shown me how important it is for older adults to feel seen, heard, respected, and engaged in life. We hope readers will find both practical guidance and encouragement in A Good Life Anywhere.”

Beyond her formal role, Gianna is a passionate educator and local champion for older adults. She regularly speaks with families and community members, as well as with law and medical schools, about care options and future planning. One of her passions is helping future professionals understand the many ways aging intersects with their work.

Thurlow brings more than 30 years of experience in branding, advertising, and strategic leadership. As founder and CEO of 3rd3rd Marketing, known as the “Un-Senior Living Agency,” she helps organizations recognize and overcome age-based assumptions that often shape branding, hiring, customer engagement, and communications.

“People want to be understood by their values, aspirations, and experiences, not reduced to a number,” said Thurlow. “Our goal with this eBook is to provide practical information that empowers older adults and their families to make decisions with confidence and clarity.”

National Postdoctoral Association Announces Inaugural Institutional Policy Awards, Releases Policy Report

New program celebrates 12 institutions advancing the postdoctoral experience; national report tracks progress, concerns

BETHESDA, Md., July 7, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) today announced the recipients of its inaugural Institutional Policy Awards, recognizing twelve institutions that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to advancing the postdoctoral experience, along with its 2026 Institutional Policy Report, tracking national trends affecting the postdoc community.

National Postdoctoral Association Announces Inaugural Institutional Policy Awards
Image caption: National Postdoctoral Association Announces Inaugural Institutional Policy Awards.

The 2026-2027 NPA Institutional Policy Award recipients are:

  • Boston Children’s Hospital
  • Cleveland Clinic Research
  • Gladstone Institutes
  • Los Alamos National Laboratory
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)
  • NYU Grossman School of Medicine
  • Temple University
  • University of Alabama at Birmingham
  • University of Texas Medical Branch
  • Van Andel Institute
  • Virginia Commonwealth University

“Today, for the first time, we make a record of who stands out in their alignment with accepted recommendations for postdoctoral excellence – ultimately not to separate them from other outstanding institutions, but to bind our whole community through shared knowledge,” said Thomas P. Kimbis, executive director and chief executive officer of the NPA.

The inaugural awardees represent approximately five percent of NPA member institutions and were selected for their outstanding overall alignment with the revised Recommended Postdoctoral Policies and Practices (RPPP). Their recognition reflects sustained institutional commitment across the broad range of policies that shape the postdoctoral experience – from appointment and compensation practices to mentoring, professional development, career preparation, and institutional support.

“At its core, these awards reflect a simple idea: if we want to improve the postdoctoral experience nationally, we need to recognize and learn from institutions that are helping lead the way,” said Andrea Pereyra, M.D., Ph.D., chair, NPA board of directors. “By doing so, we not only celebrate their commitment, but also help elevate practices that can inform and inspire progress across the broader postdoctoral community.”

The awards represent the culmination of four years of work by NPA staff and volunteers to develop the first known national initiative at this scale, recognizing institutional excellence in the postdoctoral community. The inaugural dozen awardees comprise a remarkably diverse group: large and small; universities, national laboratories, and institutes; ranging from east and west, north and south.

The institutions honored today for their work have significant alignment with NPA policy recommendations when viewed across the full set within the RPPP, although none have completed their work. “We’re not here to celebrate the perfect,” said Kimbis. “No organization is perfect. But we do see some making important, translatable progress in critical areas – and that’s worth celebrating.”

Complementing the awards, the 2026 NPA Institutional Policy Report analyzes institutional policy data available nowhere else from more than 100 organizations nationwide and provides trends, findings and recommendations. This broad view shows important gains, but also reveals a postdoctoral community at a critical juncture, facing intensifying economic pressures, persistent inequities in benefit distribution, and a structural gap in career outcome tracking that threatens the U.S. research pipeline.

Together, the RPPP, Institutional Policy Report, and Institutional Policy Awards create an integrated framework of recommendations, benchmarking, and recognition designed to help institutions understand emerging needs, measure progress, identify opportunities for improvement, and share successful approaches across the postdoctoral community.

“We celebrate leading institutions today in the context of national trends we have been tracking for more than a decade. Where we see excellence and accomplishment, we also recognize the hard work ahead to elevate the postdoctoral experience where it belongs,” said Kimbis.

In the coming months, the NPA will recognize additional institutions demonstrating exceptional achievement in specific areas of postdoctoral policy and practice. The association will also develop practical resources – including best practices, implementation guides, and lessons learned – to help institutions support postdoctoral scholars nationwide.

“Improving the postdoctoral experience is a community effort,” said Erin Heckler, Ph.D., vice chair, NPA board of directors. “The NPA, recognizing the work of these institutions as examples of policies and practices, shares what progress is possible for everyone.”

About the National Postdoctoral Association:

The NPA is a national charitable and educational nonprofit association headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, that seeks to improve the postdoctoral experience by supporting a culture of inclusive connection. Individuals seeking to support NPA and its charitable mission, please visit https://www.nationalpostdoc.org/page/donate.

Report offers multi-faceted insight on self-service kiosk industry’s double-digit growth

DENVER, Colo., July 6, 2026 (SENDPRESS NEWSWIRE) — The self-service kiosk industry continues to expand at a fast pace, driven by evolving automation technology and growing customer acceptance of self-service in nearly all venues. Companies and organizations seeking to understand this technology-intensive sector now have a comprehensive and easy-to-understand resource, the Tiger 2026 Market Report, courtesy of the Kiosk Manufacturer Association.

Report offers multi-faceted insight on self-service kiosk industry’s double-digit growth
Image caption: Report offers multi-faceted insight on self-service kiosk industry’s double-digit growth.

The 35-page report sizes the global self‑service kiosk market at about $39.4 billion in 2024, rising to roughly $82.1 billion by 2031, marking an 11.1 percent combined annual growth rate. The numbers are based on previous KMA reports, seven different industry reports, economic data, regulatory filings, reports from publicly traded companies and additional input from companies.

The report is designed to benefit kiosk industry companies in their business planning and those interested in investing in this fast growing trade.

“The weighted whole‑market growth rate comes out to 11.1 percent CAGR, but that ‘average’ hides enormous spread between segments,” said Craig Keefner, editor in chief of the report.

The report breaks the self-service kiosk industry into 14 segments which are modeled individually:

  • EV charging
  • Smart vending/micro markets
  • Smart lockers
  • Healthcare
  • Unattended POS
  • Self ordering for QSRs and fast casual restaurants
  • Digital signage
  • Check-in (hotel, airline, events)
  • Self checkout
  • Ticketing
  • Financial services/ATMs
  • Bill payment
  • Crypto ATMs
  • Others

The report also covers six adjacent verticals — parking, gaming, betting, DMV, self‑storage and self-service carwashes — contributing more than $7 billion on top of core kiosk spend.

The segment-built model for the report prevents double counting of segments in the final total.

SEGMENT HIGHLIGHTS

Segment highlights include:

  • EV charging kiosks come in at 31.5 percent CAGR, taking the category from about $0.85 billion to $5.8 billion by 2031.
  • Smart vending and micro‑markets grow at 16.5 percent CAGR, moving roughly from $1.5 billion to $4.5 billion.
  • Unattended POS and smart lockers grow in the mid‑teens, while self‑checkout grows around 9 percent but remains the single largest line item at about $15.4 billion.
  • At the other end of the growth curve, crypto ATMs are expanding at 4.2 percent, still cash‑flow positive, but no longer a significant growth story.

THREE CONVERGING FORCES CONTINUE TO ANCHOR THE SELF-SERVICE KIOSK INDUSTRY:

  • Faster EV-charging kiosk roll-out under the U.S. National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) government initiative and the European Union Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) ruling.
  • The operational pull of the European Accessibility Act (in force since June 28, 2025).
  • The large language model (LLM) voice transition in quick-serve restaurant (QSR) drive-thru.
  • Each of these forces is now expressed in segment-specific growth rates rather than averaged into a single whole-market number.

GROWTH SCENARIOS

The report also offers Bull/Base/Bear growth scenarios through 2031 for each of the 14 segments, with identified drivers such as EV charging build‑out, accessibility mandates, services penetration and AI reliability.

One of the most unique benefits the report offers is a quantified understanding of the role service plays in kiosk revenue as opposed to hardware revenue. While hardware accounts for the lion’s share of industry revenue, service is growing faster than hardware, commanding $12.4 billion in 2026. In addition to boosting revenue, service supports kiosk uptime, reliability and AI readiness.

RETROFIT VERSUS RIP-AND-REPLACE

One of the most practical outputs of the Tiger Report is a normalized five‑year total cost of ownership (TCO) model that compares retrofit against rip‑and‑replace.

Retrofit cost comes in around $7,700 per kiosk over five years, versus roughly $18,000 for rip‑and‑replace, a 57 percent lower TCO. On a 1,000‑unit fleet, that gap implies about $10.3 million of preserved capital by upgrading instead of starting over.

GEOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS

The report also includes geographic analysis of industry revenue. The United States commands about 37 percent of the global market at roughly $14.5 billion, followed by China at 17 percent ($6.8 billion), rest of Asia and Pacific at 14 percent ($5.5 billion), and core Europe (UK/Germany/France) at 13 percent ($5.1 billion). The rest of Asia Pacific is compounding fastest from a smaller base, while European growth is accelerated by the EU Accessibility Act moving from regulation to procurement driver.

The report comes in PDF form with 22 chapters and three appendices covering segment sizing, methodology, services, accessibility and adjacent verticals.

PURCHASE OPTIONS

The report is available in three versions:

  • The Basic Report (35 pages): $495.00 (Launch discount 40 percent through July 31, 2026.)
  • The Analyst Bundle buyers report includes an Excel market data pack, an analyst workbook, future updates through December 2026, and a voice AI in self‑service brief. Price: $995.00 (Launch discount 40 percent through July 31, 2026.)

New Cadence Healthcare Welcomes Dr. Karen Rasmussen as Third Physician, Reuniting Three Doctors from the Same Long Beach Residency Program

Dr. Rasmussen joins founding physician Dr. Cordelia Sotelo and Dr. Jasia Hu in August 2026 - all three trained at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center's family medicine residency program

LONG BEACH, Calif., July 2, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — New Cadence Healthcare, a membership-based primary care practice in Long Beach, today announced that Dr. Karen Rasmussen will join the practice as its third physician beginning August 2026.

Dr. Karen Rasmussen
Image caption: Dr. Karen Rasmussen.

Dr. Rasmussen is a board-certified family physician who has cared for patients in Southern California for more than a decade. Since 2011, she has practiced comprehensive outpatient family medicine at Optum’s Orange County location in Los Alamitos. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, Irvine, where she was part of the Campuswide Honors Program and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She then completed her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine before returning to Southern California to complete her family medicine residency at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center, the same program where Dr. Sotelo and Dr. Hu trained.

Her arrival brings capacity for up to 300 new patients to a practice model that caps each physician’s panel at 300 — roughly one-fifth the load carried by physicians in traditional insurance-based primary care.

“I am joining New Cadence because I want to be able to practice medicine the way it should be practiced,” said Dr. Rasmussen. “Longer visits that aren’t rushed, better availability, responding promptly to patients when they reach out, and taking the time to actually get to know them. These things are just not possible within the system most primary care physicians operate in today.”

Dr. Rasmussen joins founder Dr. Cordelia Sotelo and Dr. Jasia Hu at the practice’s Bellflower Boulevard office. Dr. Sotelo’s panel is currently full; Dr. Hu, who joined in December 2025, continues to accept new patients.

“Karen is exactly the kind of physician we built this practice for,” said Dr. Cordelia Sotelo, founder of New Cadence Healthcare. “She’s experienced, deeply patient-centered, and as committed as we are to the idea that primary care should be a relationship — not a 7-minute transaction. And there’s something meaningful about the three of us coming from the same residency program. We share a foundation of how we were trained to care for patients.”

Patients interested in establishing care with Dr. Rasmussen can learn more at https://newcadencehealthcare.com/ and call the office at 562-248-2999 to sign up.

New Cadence memberships include appointments that fit your schedule, a direct line to your care team where you are able to reach out to us anytime by phone or through a secure online patient portal with same-day or next-day replies, and care coordination with specialists.

About New Cadence Healthcare

New Cadence Healthcare is a membership-based primary care practice located at 1777 N Bellflower Blvd, Suite 210, in Long Beach, California. The practice was founded by Dr. Cordelia Sotelo to offer an alternative to the time-constrained primary care most patients experience inside the insurance system. Each New Cadence physician caps their panel at 300 patients, allowing for longer visits, direct access, and a deeper patient-physician relationship.

Dr. Karen Rasmussen is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Bay Leaf Digital Earns HubSpot Software Industry Specialist Badge

Texas B2B SaaS Agency Recognized for Demonstrated Expertise Serving Software Companies on the HubSpot Platform

GRAPEVINE, Texas, July 2, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Bay Leaf Digital, a B2B SaaS marketing agency headquartered in Texas today announced it has earned the HubSpot Software Industry Specialist badge, a selective and verified designation within HubSpot’s Industry Specialization Badge program.

Bay Leaf Digital logo
Image caption: Bay Leaf Digital.

WHAT IS THE HUBSPOT SOFTWARE INDUSTRY SPECIALIST BADGE?

HubSpot is among the most widely adopted CRM and marketing automation platforms in the B2B SaaS market. Selecting a HubSpot Solutions Partner with both platform expertise and software industry knowledge reduces ramp time, improves integration quality, and accelerates time to measurable results.

“SaaS businesses have specific needs that generalist agencies typically miss, including long buying cycles, high integration expectations, and teams that evaluate ROI on a short runway,” said Bay Leaf Digital Founder and CEO Abhi Jadhav.

The Industry Specialization Badge program helps SaaS leaders identify marketing partners who have built their practice around the needs of their sector rather than adapting a generic methodology to fit.

To earn the badge, partners must:

  • Prove fluency in software industry pain points and use cases
  • Deliver purpose-built solutions and integrations tailored to software companies
  • Operate a go-to-market motion dedicated to software buyers
  • Establish subject matter expertise through documented work with current HubSpot customers

In its notification to Bay Leaf Digital, HubSpot cited the agency’s demonstrated ability to deliver industry-specific solutions, integrations, and use cases, along with its mastery of software industry language and understanding of the unique pain points software companies face.

The new designation appears on Bay Leaf Digital’s Solutions Directory listing in the HubSpot ecosystem, where software companies can review the agency’s verified expertise and partner record.

Manager of Strategy and Growth Marketing Kara Wild said, “Designation as a HubSpot Software Industry Specialist reflects the depth we’ve built serving exactly those companies. For a software company founder evaluating agencies, it’s a verifiable signal that we understand their world before they ever schedule a call.”

A RECOGNITION MORE THAN A DECADE IN THE MAKING

Bay Leaf Digital has been dedicated to B2B SaaS since 2013. Experience has taught agency leadership that software companies face a distinct set of marketing challenges that less specialized agencies are not built to navigate.

CEO Jadhav said, “SaaS buying committees often include a mix of technical evaluators, procurement stakeholders, and executive decision-makers. A successful marketing strategy addresses their competing priorities and timelines while simultaneously speaking to each stakeholder. We’ve spent more than a decade building those kinds of complex approaches for software companies. Our HubSpot Software Industry Specialist badge reflects exactly that depth.”

Go-to-market models vary significantly across the sector. Product-led growth (PLG) companies depend on in-product acquisition signals and low-friction conversion paths, while sales-led models require carefully sequenced demand generation, content-driven education, and tight alignment between marketing and sales.

AI-native companies are entering markets with compressed launch timelines, limited brand history, and high investor scrutiny on early pipeline metrics. Vertical SaaS companies must fully grasp the complexities of a specific industry such as healthcare, logistics, legal, or construction while simultaneously positioning against both broad horizontal platforms and niche sector competitors.

The strategies that perform best for professional services firms or retail brands do not transfer cleanly, and companies pay a real cost when they work with a marketing partner that begins by learning their business on the client’s time and budget.

“The B2B SaaS market continues to evolve as AI-native companies enter at pace, vertical specialists compete against broader platforms, and founder-led sales models give way to structured go-to-market functions,” said Director of Strategy and Growth Marketing Meghann Hawes. “Software companies navigating these changes can be confident in our AI-forward stance and proven blend of industry depth and HubSpot platform expertise.”

A COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO MARKETING BUILT FOR B2B SAAS

Bay Leaf Digital’s Marketing-Led Growth Framework spans every lifecycle stage where marketing investment generates qualified leads. This starts with building early brand credibility, establishing organic search visibility, and creating generative engine authority. Subsequent steps include pipeline development, marketing automation, and revenue operations. Past and current clients include software companies that are past product-market fit and ready to scale beyond founder-led sales as well as those that are recovering from a growth plateau, repositioning after a strategic shift, or entering a market with a new AI-native product.

Before any strategy is set, each engagement begins with a 360° Marketing Diagnostic. This ensures that execution is anchored to a company’s specific growth stage and challenges rather than to a predetermined playbook.

Every client is served by a dedicated senior strategist and growth marketing manager. These experienced professionals are supported by in-house specialists in SEO, generative engine optimization (GEO), paid media, content, marketing automation, website development, sales enablement, revenue operations, and more. The agency has developed its own AI platform to power agentic workflows that give software company clients the execution speed of a larger team without the headcount cost or management burden.

After more than a decade spent learning about the industry and building tools and workflows to address SaaS challenges at speed and scale, Bay Leaf Digital has delivered results across multiple verticals and go-to-market models.

Bay Leaf Digital has helped B2B SaaS clients achieve:

  • 16x increase in new opportunities
  • 60% increase in quality leads
  • 5x year over year growth in qualified leads (MQLs) on LinkedIn
  • 34% increase in quarter over quarter revenue
  • 10x relevant keywords on Page 1 search engine result (SERP) pages
  • 3x growth in customers

“Before we build any strategy, my team and I immerse ourselves in the client’s business and industry,” said Jadhav. “We apply what we learn about their specific stage, market, and growth goals to every lever we pull. This protects their marketing investment and ensures that they derive maximum value out of every dollar we ask them to spend.” Designation as a Software Industry Specialist adds a verifiable layer of third-party recognition to Bay Leaf Digital’s credentials. For software company leaders considering marketing partners, the award confirms what the agency’s client work and partner history already reflect.

NeuroDex ExoSORT Platform Demonstrates Treatment-Responsive Blood-Based Measurement of Neuronal TDP-43 in People Living with ALS

NeuroDex's neuron-derived extracellular vesicle (NDE) technology measured neuron-specific TDP-43 in blood samples

NATICK, Mass., July 1, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — NeuroDex, a precision diagnostics company specializing in the isolation and analysis of neuron-derived extracellular vesicles (NDEs) from blood, today announced new findings supporting NDE-associated TDP-43 as a treatment-responsive biomarker in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

NeuroDex Inc.
Image caption: NeuroDex Inc.

TDP-43 mislocalization and aggregation occur in more than 97% of ALS cases, about 40% of frontotemporal dementia and a substantial proportion of Alzheimer’s-spectrum disease, either as co-pathology or primary pathology (Limbic-predominant Age-related TDP-43 Encephalopathy,LATE). Despite its central role across neurodegenerative diseases, reliable biofluid biomarkers capable of measuring TDP-43 pathology in living patients have been elusive.

Conventional plasma TDP-43 measurements are limited by substantial biological background, as TDP-43 is expressed throughout the body and detected from numerous peripheral cell types. NeuroDex’s proprietary ExoSORT™ platform addresses this challenge by selectively enriching neuron-derived extracellular vesicles from blood, providing a minimally invasive window into molecular processes occurring within neurons of the brain and spinal cord.

Across multiple independent cohorts, ExoSORT-based analysis demonstrated that NDE-associated TDP-43 distinguished sporadic ALS from healthy controls. These findings were reproduced across three cohorts: 75 sporadic ALS versus healthy controls (44% increase, P=0.0003); 25 sporadic ALS versus 30 healthy controls (52% increase, P=0.002); and a third cohort of 52 ALS versus 37 healthy controls, in which NDE-associated TDP-43 was markedly elevated in disease (more than twofold higher; P<0.0001).

Longitudinal analyses further showed that NDE-associated TDP-43 increases over time as disease progresses. In the most recent cohort, NDE-associated TDP-43 rose over time in sporadic ALS and tracked clinical status. Within-patient longitudinal modeling estimated an increase of approximately 45% per year in sporadic ALS, and TDP-43 levels were associated with disease severity as measured by the ALSFRS-R.

“TDP-43 is emerging as a central pathology in neurodegeneration, yet measuring it in biofluids has been a long-standing challenge. A blood-based readout of TDP-43 could enable better patient selection and treatment monitoring and make clinical trials more efficient. These data are encouraging and support moving into clinical validation,” said Dr. Ajay Verma, CEO of Twilight, which works with NeuroDex to develop TDP43 biomarkers for ALS and FTD.

TDP43 can also serve as a treatment response biomarker. In a recent phase 2b randomized, placebo- controlled clinical trial (PARADIGM) conducted by NeuroSense Therapeutics (Nasdaq: NRSN) with its lead product candidate PrimeC (Cudkowicz et al. 2026), NeuroDex applied its ExoSORT workflow to serial samples collected longitudinally from study participants across all scheduled study visits. NDE-associated TDP-43 was measured in serial blood samples obtained throughout the trial, enabling assessment of biomarker trajectories over time in both placebo-treated and actively treated participants.

In this trial, NDE-associated TDP-43 increased over time in the placebo group, consistent with the natural-history pattern observed in NeuroDex’s prior studies. In contrast, participants receiving PrimeC demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in NDE-associated TDP-43 from baseline over the 6-month treatment period.

Notably, the biomarker analyses were derived from the same randomized clinical dataset that demonstrated favorable effects on functional decline, survival, and additional disease-relevant biomarkers. Taken together with NeuroDex’s prior work, these findings strengthen the evidence linking NDE-associated TDP-43 to ALS disease biology and support its continued evaluation in clinical studies as a pharmacodynamic biomarker.

The analysis was performed using NeuroDex’s ExoSORT platform, the first automated and scalable technology designed specifically for enrichment of neuron-derived extracellular vesicles from blood samples “In our Phase 2b PARADIGM clinical trial, PrimeC demonstrated a meaningful slowing of disease progression and an improvement in survival. The opportunity to pair that clinical effect with a blood-based measure of TDP-43 pathology is an important step toward understanding treatment effects on the underlying biology,” said Alon Ben-Noon, Chief Executive Officer of NeuroSense Therapeutics.

Dr. Erez Eitan, NeuroDex CEO added “We are excited to see NDE-associated TDP-43 distinguish disease from healthy controls and change over time in ALSThese results demonstrate the power of our NDE technology to take pathological proteins with broad tissue expression and transform them into neuron-specific biomarkers.”

ABOUT EXOSORT™ AND NEURON-DERIVED EVS

ExoSORT™ is NeuroDex’s proprietary automated platform for the enrichment of neuron-derived extracellular vesicles (NDEs) from blood samples. Using a combination of highly specific neuronal antibodies and a scalable 96-well workflow, ExoSORT™ selectively isolates extracellular vesicles originating from the brain, increasing the neuronal signal by more than 50-fold compared with conventional plasma analyses. By enriching for brain-derived vesicles, ExoSORT™ enables detection of disease-associated proteins that are also present in other tissues, such as TDP-43.

ABOUT NEURODEX

NeuroDex is a precision diagnostics company focused on unlocking the central nervous system through the analysis of neuron-derived extracellular vesicles isolated from blood. Its proprietary ExoSORT™ platform enables researchers and drug developers to measure brain-specific proteins and biomarkers from a routine blood draw, supporting earlier detection, target-engagement readouts, and treatment-response monitoring across neurodegenerative diseases including ALS, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.

ABOUT ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that causes progressive paralysis and is typically fatal within 2–5 years of diagnosis. More than 5,000 people are diagnosed with ALS each year in the U.S. alone, with an estimated annual disease burden of $1 billion. The number of people living with ALS is expected to grow by approximately 24% by 2040 across the U.S. and EU.

ABOUT NEUROSENSE PRIMEC

PrimeC, NeuroSense Therapeutics’ lead drug candidate, is a novel extended-release oral formulation combining two FDA-approved drugs, ciprofloxacin and celecoxib, in a unique fixed-dose combination. PrimeC is designed to synergistically target several mechanisms implicated in ALS, including neuroinflammation, iron accumulation, and impaired RNA regulation, with the goal of slowing disease progression.

Author Shaffa Publishes Groundbreaking Book on the Parenting Feeling No One Has Ever Been Allowed to Name

'The Feeling You Cannot Admit' by Author Shaffa Launches July 1, 2026

LANCASTER, Calif., July 1, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Author, teacher, and coach Shaffa today announced the publication of “The Feeling You Cannot Admit: For the Parent Who Cannot Love Freely and the Child Who Grew Up Knowing It” (ISBN: 979-8996214310, paper; publisher: Peace with Shaffa, July 2026), the first book ever written to directly name and address the specific, targeted, and bewildering feeling some parents carry toward a particular child. The one that coexists with genuine love in ways that make no logical sense, and has lived, until now, in complete silence.

Cover art for "The Feeling You Cannot Admit: For the Parent Who Cannot Love Freely and The Child Who Grew Up Knowing It" by Shaffa, Published by Peace With Shaffa, July 2026.
Image caption: Cover art for “The Feeling You Cannot Admit: For the Parent Who Cannot Love Freely and The Child Who Grew Up Knowing It” by Shaffa, Published by Peace With Shaffa, July 2026.

Unlike every comparable title in the parenting and healing space, the book does not name the feeling for the reader. It gives the reader the psychological safety, the honest framework, the scientific grounding, and the spiritual wisdom to name her own experience in her own language for the very first time. Because the most powerful naming, author Shaffa argues, is the one the reader does herself. A name handed to her is a verdict. A name she arrives at through her own honest work is a key to lasting change and genuine transformation.

The book was written simultaneously for two readers: the parent who has never been able to say this out loud to anyone, due to the immense shame the feeling evokes, and the adult who grew up knowing something was missing in the way a parent loved them. In many families, these are the same person.

Drawing on the ACE Study, the research of Dr. Bruce Perry on childhood trauma and brain development, Dr. Rachel Yehuda’s epigenetics work on intergenerational trauma, the HeartMath Institute’s studies on the electromagnetic field of the heart, and Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, the book provides rigorous scientific grounding for experiences that have previously existed only in shame and silence.

The book introduces two original frameworks. The Love Trinity of Will, Action, and Energy explains why blocked love is not absent love and what it actually takes to unblock it. The Relay Race of Healing maps the generational transmission of this wound and shows why one person’s healing changes every generation that follows.

Moving across five parts from the wound to the healing, the book includes personal reflection practices, journaling exercises, somatic and body-based practices, and meditative tools throughout, which makes it both a reading experience and an active healing guide.

“This book exists because I suffered in silence and refused to carry this alone,” said Shaffa. “And because I believe no parent should have to. The feeling has never had a name. That silence has cost parents, children, and entire generations. The love was never absent. It was blocked. And what is blocked can be unblocked.”

Shaffa is herself a rejected and wounded child and a mother of five who discovered after having her own children that the wound she believed was healed had surfaced in her parenting in ways she was not prepared for. She wrote the book from the other side of the healing, with the authority that only lived experience produces.

“The Feeling You Cannot Admit” is available July 1, 2026 in paperback ($24.99), hardcover ($34.99), and ebook ($9.99) editions. Print editions are available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and booksellers and libraries worldwide via Ingram distribution. The ebook is available through all major digital retailers including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes and Noble Nook, and Google Play. SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 1, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — The Mortgage Collaborative (TMC), the nation’s largest independent cooperative network for mortgage lenders, has launched the TMC Healthcare Cooperative, a self-funded medical program open to all TMC lender members and preferred partners. Developed in partnership with CCIG, a Colorado-based employee benefits firm, the program gives vendors, community banks, credit unions and independent mortgage bankers a way to fund their own health claims as a group, share risk through a captive structure and access institutional-grade stop-loss coverage, replacing the fully insured carrier model where rate increases arrive at renewal with no explanation and no recourse.

TMC - The Mortgage Collaborative
Image caption: TMC – The Mortgage Collaborative.

“Mortgage lenders have for too long been paying into a system that offers nothing in return when claims run well,” said Jodi Hall, president and CEO of The Mortgage Collaborative. “For an IMB without the scale of a large institution, for example, that means absorbing rate increases year after year with no transparency into what’s driving costs and no path to a better outcome. The TMC Healthcare Cooperative changes that equation for our entire network, giving members and partners the purchasing power, the claims visibility and the risk-sharing structure that large employers take for granted, delivered through the trust and community TMC has already built.”

In a fully insured plan, premiums go to a national carrier regardless of healthcare usage. The TMC Healthcare Cooperative replaces this with a group captive model: participants pool risk and fund their claims, so money stays within the group. A captive layer spreads risk; a tough claims year for one participant doesn’t necessarily raise that participant’s renewal cost. Stop-loss coverage caps big claims, protecting members from high costs. Surpluses from better-than-expected claims are returned to participants rather than retained by an insurance carrier.

For depository institutions like community banks and credit unions, the program covers all employees, not just mortgage staff. It pairs this with plan partners for administration, pharmacy and stop-loss coverage, selected through evaluation. A committee of TMC lender members vetted these partners to ensure the program matches industry-specific costs, workforce traits and business cycles. Participants see their claims data, control plan design and share best practices with peers.

The TMC Healthcare Cooperative is for organizations with 51+ employees; smaller options are upcoming. Members should start 180 days before renewal with a short interest form, then a 30-minute intro. Interested parties share census and claims data for cost comparison. Participation is exclusive to the TMC community.

Lender members and preferred partners can complete the interest form at https://benefits.thinkccig.com/ or contact their TMC member benefits advocate. Organizations interested in joining TMC may contact referrals@mtgcoop.com.

LodeStar report shows nominal year-over-year decline in national average mortgage closing costs

Decrease closely correlates with national home price trends, illustrating how closing costs impact housing affordability

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., June 30, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — LodeStar Software Solutions (LodeStar), the leading provider of mortgage closing cost and fee data, today announced the release of its Year-Over-Year Mortgage Closing Cost Report covering 2024 versus 2025. The report analyzes distinct mortgage quotes across all 50 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.), drawn from the company’s closing cost calculator platform. Nationally, purchase loan closing costs declined by 2.9%, driven largely by falling home prices, which reduced transfer tax burdens across many markets. In total, 28 states saw closing costs decrease, while 23 states experienced increases.

LodeStar Software Solutions
Image caption: LodeStar Software Solutions.

The most dramatic single-market shift occurred in D.C., where closing costs dropped 21.1%. Because D.C. has one of the highest transfer tax rates in the country, the significant decrease in the average purchase price here had a compounding effect on closing costs, though the area still has the highest dollar-value closing costs nationally. Conversely, home prices in Delaware rose modestly, pushing closing costs up by 4.5%, keeping it the most expensive state as a percentage of sale price at 3.06%.

Other key findings from LodeStar’s 2024 v. 2025: Year-Over-Year Mortgage Closing Cost Report include:

  • An 7.8% surge in refinance volume, with refi closing costs averaging less than half of purchase closing costs;
  • Higher-than-average refinance closing costs for New York and Florida borrowers, driven by taxes structured around the loan or note amount, rather than a property transfer, which then applies to both purchase and refinance transactions; and
  • A growing trend of recording fees being redirected to fund non-real-estate programs, such as affordable housing and homelessness services, with little to no borrower visibility.

“The connection between closing costs and housing affordability is often overshadowed by other components to the equation, like interest rates and down payments,” said Ron Carvalho, director of data operations at LodeStar. “However, our data shows that decisions made at the state level on recording taxes and document fees have a direct impact on borrowers’ total financial ability to purchase or refinance their home. Knowing what’s happening with these costs helps lenders provide accurate guidance to their borrowers in their homeownership journey.”

Methodology

LodeStar’s dataset is drawn from the company’s closing cost calculator platform, which serves mortgage lenders across the United States. Each record represents a distinct quote (not a funded loan), identified by a unique search ID. Where lenders run multiple quotes for the same loan, only distinct transactions are counted.

Closing costs are reported both inclusive and exclusive of recording fees and transfer taxes, as these components are highly jurisdiction-specific and can create misleading cross-state comparisons when included without context. The report presents averages by state; individual market results may vary based on loan amount, property value, transaction type and title provider selection.

Average figures in this report represent the average of state-level averages and should be interpreted as a benchmark rather than a population-weighted national mean.

Friday Harbor and NewFed Mortgage honored with PROGRESS in Lending’s 2026 Connections Award

Award recognizes collaboration that cut cycle times, boosted capacity and drove $170 million in additional volume

SEATTLE, Wash., June 29, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Friday Harbor, an AI pre-underwriting platform that helps loan officers assemble complete and compliant loan files in real time, has been named a recipient of PROGRESS in Lending’s 2026 Connections Award alongside NewFed Mortgage Corp. (NewFed), a full-service residential mortgage lender operating in more than 20 states. The recognition honors a partnership that allowed NewFed to grow production without the hiring cycles and overhead that typically accompany scale.

NewFed Mortgage leverages Friday Harbor to boost fulfillment productivity by 35%
Image caption: Friday Harbor and NewFed Mortgage honored with PROGRESS in Lending’s 2026 Connections Award.

NewFed rolled out Friday Harbor across its origination and fulfillment teams with a straightforward premise: catch problems before they reach an underwriter. The platform evaluates loan files against automated underwriting system (AUS) findings, investor guidelines and NewFed’s own credit overlays early in the process, so processors and loan officers can resolve issues while borrowers are still engaged.

The results have been significant. Since implementing Friday Harbor, NewFed processors have increased monthly file capacity by 36%, while underwriters review 35% more loans. Application-to-funded cycle times have dropped from 32 days to 26 days, and NewFed funded approximately $170 million more in loans during 2025 than the prior year without adding a single fulfillment hire.

“NewFed came to us with a clear-eyed goal: grow production without the headcount increases that erode margin,” said Theo Ellis, CEO of Friday Harbor. “What made this partnership work was their willingness to give us a real look at how their operation actually runs: the workflows, the friction points, the edge cases. The results speak to what’s possible when a technology partner understands your operation from the inside out.”

Now in its third year, the Connections Award honors partnerships and integrations that are advancing mortgage lending through collaboration, innovation and measurable business results. The collaboration extended well beyond a typical lender-vendor relationship. NewFed joined Friday Harbor as an early design partner, contributing feedback on real production workflows and loan scenarios that directly shaped the platform’s development.

DocMagic and Truliant Federal Credit Union earn PROGRESS in Lending’s 2026 Connections Award for industry-first eHELOC milestone

Recognition marks the latest chapter in a yearslong collaboration that has produced three landmark milestones in digital mortgage lending

TORRANCE, Calif., June 29, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — DocMagic® was honored today with PROGRESS in Lending’s 2026 Connections Award alongside Truliant Federal Credit Union, a North Carolina-based credit union serving more than 300,000 members. The recognition honors a yearslong partnership that culminated in the mortgage industry’s first electronic home equity line of credit (eHELOC) registered with the MERS® eRegistry.

DocMagic, Inc.

Since 2020, Truliant and DocMagic have worked together to build the credit union’s digital closing capabilities from the ground up. In June 2025, that partnership extended into home equity lending, where DocMagic’s SmartSAFE™ eVault made the eHELOC registration possible.

The eHELOC milestone is the third time the two organizations have broken new ground together. In March 2020, DocMagic helped Truliant become the first credit union in North Carolina to complete a full eClosing. A year later, working with DocMagic, Truliant became the first credit union to transfer an eNote to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and just the second in the entire 11-member FHLBank system to do so, opening a wider path for member financial institutions to pledge eNotes. In the months that followed, the shift to eNotes cut six to eight days from Truliant’s loan delivery timeline.

“Truliant has been a tremendous partner in advancing digital lending across the credit union space,” said Pat Theodora, CEO of DocMagic. “Every milestone we’ve reached together over the years has been built on a shared belief that the next frontier is always worth pursuing.”

“DocMagic has helped us move lending forward with greater speed, efficiency and ease for consumers,” said Beth Eller, senior vice president of mortgage lending at Truliant. “Their innovative, forward-thinking approach has been instrumental to our progress, and we’re honored to celebrate this achievement together.”

The latest release introduces ByteDance’s newest Seedance 2.0 Mini model, native 4K support for Seedance 2.0, and the all-new Marketing Studio, further strengthening LumeFlow AI as an all-in-one AI content creation platform for creators, marketers, and brands.

LumeFlow AI Launches Major Platform Update With Seedance 2.0 Mini, 4K Video Generation, and Marketing Studio
Image caption: LumeFlow AI Releases Major Update To Accelerate AI Video Creation and Marketing Workflows.

As demand for AI-generated content continues to grow across TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and digital advertising, creators need more than individual AI models—they need efficient production workflows. This update enables users to move seamlessly from content ideation to professional marketing videos within a single platform.

SEEDANCE 2.0 MINI DELIVERS FASTER AI VIDEO GENERATION

One of the biggest highlights of this release is the integration of Seedance 2.0 Mini, ByteDance’s latest AI video generation model built for high-frequency content production.

Supporting both text-to-video and image-to-video generation, Seedance 2.0 Mini significantly improves generation speed while maintaining impressive visual quality. The model also delivers stronger consistency in character appearance, smoother camera movement, and more stable performance across complex scenes.

For creators producing short-form videos, advertising creatives, and daily social media content, Seedance 2.0 Mini provides a faster workflow without sacrificing creative quality, making it ideal for rapid content iteration.

SEEDANCE 2.0 4K UNLOCKS PROFESSIONAL AI VIDEO PRODUCTION

LumeFlow AI now also supports native 4K generation for Seedance 2.0, bringing professional-grade AI video creation to commercial production workflows.

The upgraded model supports multimodal inputs—including text, images, audio, and video—to generate high-resolution AI videos with remarkable detail and visual consistency.

Key advantages include:

  • Native 4K output with cinematic 10-bit color for richer color grading and smoother lighting transitions.
  • Enhanced preservation of fine visual details such as hair, clothing textures, and lighting reflections, making it suitable for commercial advertising and professional filmmaking.
  • Flexible post-production workflows, allowing creators to crop 4K footage into vertical 9:16 formats for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts without compromising image quality.
  • Advanced multimodal generation supporting up to nine reference images, three video clips, and three audio files within a single generation task.

These capabilities provide creators, agencies, and production studios with greater creative flexibility while significantly reducing the complexity of professional AI video generation.

MARKETING STUDIO BRINGS END-TO-END AI MARKETING VIDEO CREATION

The update also introduces Marketing Studio, a new workflow solution that helps creators and businesses produce marketing videos more efficiently.

Marketing Studio supports three dedicated creative modes designed for different advertising scenarios:

  • UGC Video

Built for influencer marketing, product recommendations, and talking-head videos, creators can choose an existing avatar, create a custom avatar, or allow the AI to generate a virtual presenter automatically. This enables rapid production of engaging social commerce content.

  • Ad Video

Designed for product-focused advertising, users can upload product images or simply provide a product webpage URL. Marketing Studio automatically analyzes product information and generates visually compelling promotional videos that highlight product features and selling points.

  • AI Commercial

For brands seeking more cinematic advertising content, AI Commercial supports structured inputs including brand names, product descriptions, target audiences, key selling points, and campaign tags. The result is professional-quality commercial videos suitable for brand campaigns and TVC-style productions.

In addition, Marketing Studio allows products to be stored as reusable creative assets, making future editing and campaign production significantly more efficient. The feature currently supports advertising workflows powered by Seedance 2.0 and PixVerse, with additional AI models planned for future updates.

BUILDING A SMARTER AI CONTENT CREATION WORKFLOW

Rather than introducing individual AI features, this update reflects LumeFlow AI’s continued focus on building a complete AI content creation workflow.

From faster AI video generation with Seedance 2.0 Mini, to professional 4K production capabilities, and finally to automated marketing video creation with Marketing Studio, creators can now complete the entire production pipeline—from concept to commercial-ready content—inside one platform.

As AI-powered content production continues to evolve, LumeFlow AI remains committed to providing creators with the latest AI models, integrated creative workflows, and production tools that improve efficiency without increasing complexity.

Virginia’s Leader in Lightning Protection Supports National Lightning Safety Awareness Campaign and Commemorates International Lightning Safety Day Locally

RICHMOND, Va., June 26, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Loehr Lightning Protection Co. (LLP), Virginia’s leader in lightning protection system consultation and installation, is endorsing two important lightning safety initiatives. LLP, a woman-owned Virginia contracting firm founded in 1947, is supporting the National Lightning Safety Council’s 26th-year anniversary of National Lightning Safety Awareness Week and aligning itself with the South Asian Lightning Network (SALNet) and its experts at Aegisflash in Houston, Texas to commemorate International Lightning Safety Day (ILSD), June 28, 2026.

Loehr Lightning Protection Co. - Lightning protection systems that comply with national safety standards can fortify homes and buildings against this leading weather threat.
Image caption: While lightning-sparked fires claim lives and destroy homes and structures in every region of the U.S., most property owners are unaware that these fires can be prevented. Lightning protection systems that comply with national safety standards can fortify homes and buildings against this leading weather threat.

“Lightning is the weather threat that affects most people in most parts of our state and the U.S., and it’s also a leading fire threat,” said Milicent Loehr Lynch, vice president and co-owner at LLP. She continued stating that, “A lightning strike can pack over 300 million volts of power—massive electricity that can ignite a devastating home or structural fire in seconds.”

“The National Lightning Safety Council’s Awareness Week campaign at the official start of summer is a perfect time to remind property owners about a common, very destructive, yet little understood fire risk,” added Lynch, who is also an LPI-Certified Journeyman, LPS installer and a member of the Lightning Protection Institute’s Ethics Committee. “Partnering with LPS industry professionals and sharing NLSC, NFPA and ILSD resources, are just a few of the ways we’re helping to build lightning safe communities.”

“International Lightning Safety Day began in 2020 as an initiative to commemorate a lightning tragedy that occurred in Uganda on June 28, 2011,” said Dr. Shriram Sharma (PhD), principal at Aegisflash and chairman of SALNet, which began the ILSD initiative to raise awareness about the dangers of lightning and the importance of safety measures. In his work with SALNet, Dr. Shriram has partnered with a host of dedicated professionals, including researchers, engineers, risk mitigation practitioners and advocates who share a common goal: saving lives and protecting critical infrastructure from the deadly and destructive lightning hazard.

While safety standard-compliant lightning protection systems (LPS) can provide a safe and effective grounding network to protect structures from the lightning threat, most property owners aren’t aware of their availability. According to experts at the Lightning Protection Institute, the NFPA 780 Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems is recognized as the most comprehensive resource for reducing lightning risks at U.S. properties. The NFPA regularly reviews LPS methods and materials through its code process to make sure that lightning protection methods and materials are standardized and keep pace with our ever-changing building technology.

While commercial, industrial, governmental, municipal, educational and healthcare facilities routinely specify NFPA 780 LPS technology as a risk mitigation measure, homeowners are increasingly relying on LPS to fortify and protect their properties against the destructive and sometimes deadly lightning threat.

“Lightning strikes that occur in the darkness of night can be especially difficult to recognize and detect,” said Lynch. “Even in the light of day, lightning fires aren’t always visible in their initial stages and it’s not unusual for these blazes to originate in enclosed spaces like the attic, basement or electrical panels.”

“Every year, lightning continues to claim lives and damage valuable infrastructure around the world,” said Dr. Sharma. “Thankfully, we possess the science, technology, standards, and expertise needed to significantly reduce these losses to prevent tragedies like the June 2011 Uganda event. The challenge is not whether solutions exist, it is whether we choose to implement them,” he explained.

It is Dr. Sharma’s hope that International Lightning Safety Day will continue to grow as a “globally recognized platform that inspires action, promotes best practices, and ultimately saves lives.”

Inquiries about specific lightning concerns, the annual Lightning Safety Awareness Week campaign, and International Lightning Safety Day can be addressed to NLSC members via contacts here: http://www.lightningsafetycouncil.com/LSC-About.html.

ASC Direct Expands Short-Run Packaging Capacity with Three AOPACK Box Making Machines

The U.K. packaging producer added a BM2508-Pro and BM1800-Mini after operating its first AOPACK machine since 2020

QINGDAO, Shandong and SHIPLEY, West Yorkshire, U.K., June 26, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — AOPACK Ltd., a manufacturer of corrugated box making machines, today announced that U.K. packaging producer ASC Direct is now operating three AOPACK machines to support its short-run, bespoke and custom-sized corrugated packaging production.

Three AOPACK box making machines (BM2508-Plus, BM2508-Pro and BM1800-Mini) operating at ASC Direct in the United Kingdom.
Photo caption: Three AOPACK box making machines (BM2508-Plus, BM2508-Pro and BM1800-Mini) operating at ASC Direct in the United Kingdom.

ASC Direct installed its first AOPACK BM2508-Plus in 2020. Following several years of production experience with the machine, the company ordered an additional BM2508-Pro and BM1800-Mini in 2025. The two new machines were commissioned in March 2026 through GTS Europe, AOPACK’s sales and service partner in the United Kingdom.

The expanded installation allows ASC Direct to assign different orders to the machine best suited to the required board size, box format and production quantity.

FROM ONE AOPACK MACHINE TO THREE

ASC Direct produces bespoke corrugated packaging for both customers ordering directly through its online system and customers purchasing corrugated cartons through traditional offline sales channels. Its online ordering system allows customers to configure custom-sized cardboard boxes in quantities ranging from 25 to 2,000 units. According to GTS Europe, more than 90 percent of these online orders are for quantities of 100 boxes or fewer.

This production profile requires frequent order changes, flexible box dimensions, efficient board utilization and careful control of labor and setup costs.

ASC Direct had already gained practical experience with its BM2508-Plus before investing in two additional AOPACK models.

The BM2508-Pro and BM1800-Mini were both added primarily to increase ASC Direct’s overall production capacity. The three AOPACK machines can produce a broad range of corrugated box styles, allowing the customer to distribute orders according to available capacity, board width, required functions, and production schedules.

In addition to increased capacity, the BM2508-Pro provides functions including cold gluing, QR code scanning and glue flap crushing, helping ASC Direct integrate more production steps into one coordinated workflow.

The BM1800-Mini also includes cold gluing and QR code scanning. It processes narrower corrugated sheets than the BM2508-Pro, but its compact footprint allows the customer to add production capacity while using less factory floor space.

FLEXIBLE CORRUGATED BOX PRODUCTION

AOPACK box making machines combine key corrugated converting processes within a programmable production workflow.

Depending on the machine model, configuration and required box style, these processes can include slitting, creasing, slotting, horizontal cutting, customized shape cutting, gluing and printing.

Operators can enter the required board dimensions and box specifications through the machine control interface, allowing the equipment to adjust for different production orders without requiring a traditional cutting die for each box size.

This approach is particularly useful for short-run production, where frequent size changes and small quantities can make conventional tooling and multi-stage production less economical.

The AOPACK box making production workflow helped ASC Direct reduce inefficiencies associated with its previous rotary slitter process for short-run orders. The machines can slit, score and cut corrugated board in one coordinated process while supporting a wide range of packaging formats.

“The significance of this project is the customer’s decision to invest again after several years of operating its first AOPACK machine in real production,” said Anna Qin, Sales Director at AOPACK Ltd. “The BM2508-Pro and BM1800-Mini increase ASC Direct’s overall production capacity while adding functions such as cold gluing and QR code scanning. The compact BM1800-Mini also allows the customer to expand production while using less factory floor space.”

AOPACK AFTER-SALES VISIT

An AOPACK after-sales manager recently visited ASC Direct to review the three machines in operation and learn more about the customer’s current production requirements.

The visit included discussions with ASC Direct regarding machine utilization, operator experience, routine maintenance, box applications and future production needs.

The visit also provided AOPACK with practical feedback about how the three machine models are being used together within the same production environment.

REPEAT INVESTMENT DEMONSTRATES LONG-TERM PRODUCTION VALUE

The ASC Direct project is more than a delivery of two new machines. It demonstrates how a customer can begin with one AOPACK box making machine, gain several years of production experience and then expand with additional models selected for different production requirements.

Together, the three machines provide additional production capacity for standard cases, bespoke cartons, smaller e-commerce boxes, and other customized corrugated packaging formats.

Alder Springs Vineyard to Conclude Farming After 2026 Harvest

Owner Stuart Bewley announces the decision to cease vineyard operations in the face of industry downturn

LAYTONVILLE, Calif., June 26, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — After 33 years as one of California’s most singular and pioneering vineyards, Alder Springs Vineyard, the remote, high-elevation Mendocino County site, announced today that the 2026 harvest will be the last vintage farmed under founder and owner Stuart Bewley. After more than three decades, Bewley will step back from financing the vineyard’s farming and will cease supplying grapes to the market after the 2026 season.

Alder Springs Vineyard, Terraces block
Image caption: Alder Springs Vineyard, Terraces block.

The decision follows a multi-year contraction across the wine industry. The downturn has hit growers hardest, who bear the fixed costs of farming regardless of demand.

“We can’t take a year off the vineyard. We’ve got to prune, water, and take care of it, and a huge amount of that is manual labor,” explained Bewley. “At some point, the numbers have to pencil. Right now, they don’t — not because of the vineyard, but because the market for this kind of fruit isn’t there yet.”

First planted in 1993, Alder Springs, whose fruit has supplied many of California’s most acclaimed and adventurous wineries, became known for doing what few believed possible. Bewley pioneered organic frost protection to grow high-quality fruit on a rugged mountain site at elevations between 1,700 and 2,700 feet; committed to no-till farming from the outset to protect the salmon-bearing streams that run through the property; and spent 15 years transitioning the vineyard to regenerative practices. Today, it grows 43 commercial varieties — among them rarities in California such as Petite Arvine, Mencía, Counoise, Pelaverga and Aligoté — alongside ongoing trials of hundreds of variety, clone, and rootstock combinations.

Over the years, Alder Springs fruit appeared in a wide range of highly rated wines from dozens of significant California producers.

Looking ahead, Bewley will redirect his focus to other profitable enterprises, including his carbon-sequestration company, Carbon Storage Solutions LLC, land-stewardship work, and his role on the board of the Pacific Forest Trust. Some members of the Alder Springs team will transition to those businesses alongside him; the vineyard is assisting others in finding new opportunities in the industry.

Bewley will retain ownership of the ranch with no intention to sell.

“We have loved this business and working with each of the producers who came here,” said Bewley. “The wine industry has had a major downturn, and it hit them. Had our customers been able to weather it, they would have kept buying fruit, and we’d still be growing.”

Bewley and his team will farm through the current season with the same commitment that has defined the vineyard from the start.

“We will be making 2026 our very best vintage in our 33 years in this business,” said Bewley.

About Alder Springs Vineyard

Founded in 1993 by Stuart Bewley, Alder Springs Vineyard is one of California’s most distinctive high-elevation winegrowing estates. Known for pioneering regenerative mountain viticulture and an exceptional diversity of grape varieties, it has supplied fruit to many of California’s most respected wineries for more than three decades, earning a reputation well beyond its size. New Workshop Kits Let Any Organization Teach Seniors Without Hiring an Expert

Ready-to-teach curricula from TheSeniorTechie cover scams, AI, streaming TV, gardening, and more

ASHEVILLE, N.C., June 26, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — TheSeniorTechie today announced a series of ready-to-teach curriculum kits designed for organizations serving adults 55 and older. Each kit gives a staff member or volunteer everything needed to lead a polished, engaging workshop on topics older adults care about, with no subject-matter expertise required and no preparation beyond reading the materials.

TheSeniorTechie Workshops
Image caption: Ready-to-teach curricula from TheSeniorTechie cover scams, AI, streaming TV, gardening, and more.

“Program directors know their communities,” said Paul Wilczynski, founder of TheSeniorTechie. “They know what people are curious about and worried about. What they don’t always have is the time to turn that into a full workshop. I wanted to give them tools that respect both their time and their participants.”

Wilczynski speaks from experience on both sides of that problem. At 77, he is a retired software developer, publisher of the TheSeniorTechie newsletter, and founder of TheSeniorTechie Press. His newsletter, which covers the issues shaping life after 55, now reaches more than 2,200 subscribers. TheSeniorTechie Press has published the “TheSeniorTechie Guide To AI for Seniors,” with a second title, “Who Gets Your Passwords? TheSeniorTechie Guide To Digital Estate Planning,” arriving in July 2026.

WHERE TO GET THEM

Workshop kits are available now at https://workshops.TheSeniorTechie.com. A free complete sample kit is available for download with no purchase required.

WHAT COMES IN EVERY KIT

Each kit includes a complete slide deck, a detailed teaching guide with word-for-word suggested language, student handouts, a glossary, a satisfaction survey, and a pre-class checklist. The teaching guide is written for someone who may have no classroom experience and no background in the topic. The instructor is never left without something to say.

The kits are built around two-hour sessions and are designed so that discussions, participant questions, and natural pauses fill the time without the instructor having to improvise.

CURRENT WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE

Senior Scams covers the fraud patterns most likely to target older adults, warning signs participants can learn to recognize, and practical steps to take if someone they know has already been targeted. The goal is to help participants feel more alert and less anxious by giving them language they can actually use.

AI For Seniors places artificial intelligence in everyday context rather than getting lost in technical explanations. The workshop covers where AI already shows up in daily life, what it can and cannot do, how to benefit from using the most popular AI tools, and how participants can think about its benefits and risks without feeling pressured to adopt anything new.

Cut the Cord helps participants understand the changing landscape of television. It explains what streaming services actually are, how they compare to traditional cable, and what trade-offs exist for different viewing habits and budgets. No product is pushed. The emphasis is on making an informed choice.

I Killed a Cactus: A Beginner’s Guide to Gardening uses beginner gardening as a welcoming entry point for participants who describe themselves as having no green thumb. The focus is on simple, achievable approaches that build confidence and encourage conversation among people trying something new.

TRY IT FREE BEFORE YOU BUY

Organizations that want to see exactly what they are purchasing before committing can download the Western North Carolina Native Plants kit at no cost. It is a complete two-session workshop, not a preview, and it shows coordinators precisely how the materials are structured, how much preparation time is realistically needed, and what participants will see and take home.

Kits are priced by the number of sessions: one-session kits are $49, two-session kits are $79, and three-session kits are $109. Each purchase covers unlimited use within the purchasing organization, with no per-class fees or annual renewals. New workshops are added regularly. Organizations with specific programming needs are encouraged to reach out directly at Paul@TheSeniorTechie.com. Wilczynski notes that kits can be developed in as little as two weeks.

ABOUT THESENIORTECHIE

TheSeniorTechie serves any organization that runs programming for adults 55 and older. Senior centers, libraries, OLLIs, churches, Area Agencies on Aging, continuing care retirement communities, and YMCAs are among the organizations that will find these kits useful, but any group that brings older adults together around shared learning is a good fit.

TheSeniorTechie is a publishing initiative dedicated to helping adults 55 and older make sense of the issues that shape their lives. Founded by retired software developer and author Paul Wilczynski, TheSeniorTechie publishes a newsletter at https://www.TheSeniorTechie.com, curriculum kits for organizations at https://workshops.TheSeniorTechie.com, and books for older adults through TheSeniorTechie Press, available on Amazon. TheSeniorTechie is based in Asheville, N.C.

“Click n’ Close has always viewed technology not just as a competitive advantage but as an operational imperative, and our entrepreneurial mindset means we’re willing to look outside this industry for the talent and ideas that push us forward,” said Ian Kimball, president of Click n’ Close. “We’ve found that leaders who have seen what technology can accomplish in other high-stakes, compliance-driven environments bring a perspective this industry needs. Image caption: Smile Paint is a revolutionary child’s toothbrushing concept designed to transform daily brushing into a fun, engaging experience.

Smile Paint offers 4 yummy, dessert-inspired, colorful toothpaste flavors including Fluoridated Vanilla Cupcake, and 3 Fluoride-free flavors including Strawberry Shortcake, Banana Cream Pie and Blueberry Cobbler. Kids mix, paint and brush while having fun creating limitless color and flavor combinations, turning toothbrushing time into something to look forward to.

Smile Paint founder and CEO Stacey Moore Thomas, a special-needs advocate, witnessed through her Tampa-based pediatric speech and language therapy company, Jabber Jaw Kids, LLC, how toothbrushing can become a daily challenge – especially for special needs children with oral sensitivities or taste aversions.

According to Thomas, “I saw the need to make the process of toothbrushing fun—one that works with a child’s natural learning style—play. With Smile Paint, kids take control by mixing the flavors and colors to create new colors and taste experiences while ‘painting’ and then brushing their teeth. It transforms resistance into excitement and fun.”

Thomas went on to say, “Our toothpastes were crafted with carefully selected ingredients including all-natural flavors, mostly naturally-derived colors, and without SLS, gluten and other unnecessary additives, with a goal of prioritizing both safety and fun.”

“Our mission is simple,” Thomas added, “We want to transform toothbrushing into a fun experience that children enjoy—and that parents can feel good about.”

“From the Jabber Jaw Kids family to yours, Smile Paint is more than just toothpaste – it’s an invitation to create joyful routines, spark imagination, and share moments of silly fun and ‘rainbow smiles.’ By making brushing interactive, it helps reduce stress for families and builds confidence in children,” said Thomas.

iEmergent supports launch of CONVERGENCE Knowledge Hub with Market Profile Dashboard

Longtime CONVERGENCE partner powers interactive resource that helps communities identify opportunities to expand homeownership

DES MOINES, Iowa, June 25, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — iEmergent, a forecasting and advisory services firm for the financial services, mortgage and real estate industries, today announced its support of the newly launched CONVERGENCE® Knowledge Hub, a centralized resource designed to help lenders, nonprofit organizations, housing counselors, real estate professionals and community leaders expand access to sustainable homeownership.

iEMERGENT
Image caption: iEmergent.

Unveiled earlier this month by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) and the CONVERGENCE Collaborative, the Knowledge Hub brings together field-tested solutions, case studies, practical tools and research developed through years of collaboration among housing stakeholders working to address barriers to homeownership and housing affordability.

As part of the platform, iEmergent powers the Market Profile Dashboard, an interactive resource that allows users to explore local demographics, homeownership patterns, affordability challenges, mortgage credit access and housing supply trends across hundreds of U.S. markets. The dashboard helps communities identify homeownership gaps, understand local market dynamics and develop strategies tailored to the needs of their residents.

“The launch of the Knowledge Hub is exciting because it takes lessons that have emerged from years of collaboration in communities across the country and makes them accessible to a much broader audience,” said Laird Nossuli, CEO of iEmergent. “At its core, CONVERGENCE is about helping communities understand their local housing challenges, learn from what has worked elsewhere and build solutions that reflect their own needs. The Knowledge Hub brings those elements together in one place, combining practical resources, real-world examples and local market insights that can help stakeholders move from discussion to action.”

“iEmergent has been a cornerstone of CONVERGENCE’s ability to translate data into action at the local level,” said Wendy Penn, vice president of affordable housing initiatives at the Mortgage Bankers Association. “Too often, communities have the motivation to expand homeownership but struggle to make the case for where to focus and why. The Market Profile Dashboard changes that, giving local leaders the evidence they need to align partners, prioritize resources and build strategies with real staying power.”

CONVERGENCE is an initiative launched in 2019 by the Mortgage Bankers Association to expand homeownership through innovative community partnerships. CONVERGENCE addresses the information, trust, resource and market gaps that create barriers to homeownership. CONVERGENCE operates place-based initiatives in Memphis, Tennessee, Columbus, Ohio, Philadelphia and Baltimore. In each city, a mission-aligned local nonprofit organization serves as the lead partner, playing a central role in fostering collaboration among stakeholders across the housing ecosystem.

iEmergent’s contribution to the Knowledge Hub builds on years of involvement with CONVERGENCE initiatives nationwide. Nossuli currently serves as a national partner to CONVERGENCE and co-leads the Research and Evaluation workstream for both CONVERGENCE Philadelphia and Columbus. Beyond providing technology and market intelligence, iEmergent works alongside lenders, nonprofit organizations and municipal leaders to develop data-informed strategies, measure outcomes and expand access to sustainable homeownership.

Florida Attorney General Uthmeier Becomes First in Nation to Subpoena CVS’s Secret Contracts with Drug Manufacturers, Distributors, and Pharmacies

Landmark Action Aims to Expose Opaque PBM Practices Driving Up Drug Costs and Threatening Independent Pharmacy Access

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., June 25, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Small Business Pharmacies Aligned for Reform (SPAR) today praised Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier for becoming the first attorney general in the United States to subpoena CVS’s confidential contracts with drug manufacturers, wholesale distributors, and both chain and independent retail pharmacies. The subpoenas represent a historic step toward exposing the secretive pricing and contracting practices of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) that patient advocates and independent pharmacists say have driven up prescription drug costs and jeopardized patients’ access to community pharmacy care.

Image caption: Small business Pharmacies Aligned for Reform (SPAR) is a group of Floridian neighborhood pharmacists and other advocates.

“We appreciate Attorney General Uthmeier for standing up to CVS and the vertically integrated PBMs on behalf of Floridians seeking answers to the continuing problems of ever-increasing price and shrinking patient accessibility to prescription medication,” said Dawn Butterfield, SPAR president. “Floridians are entitled to know and understand how PBM contract terms may affect their access to care and the price they pay at the pharmacy counter.”

“The subpoenas will compel CVS to produce contracts that have never been subject to public scrutiny, including agreements governing drug pricing with manufacturers, wholesaler purchase terms, and the reimbursement and network participation conditions imposed on retail pharmacies,” said Barney Bishop, SPAR’s CEO. “Transparency into these agreements will allow investigators to assess whether CVS’s contracting practices comply with state consumer protection and antitrust law, and whether patients are being harmed by the systemic elimination of independent pharmacy competition.”

“SPAR urges state attorneys general across the country to follow Florida’s lead and examine whether PBM contracting practices in their states are harming patients and independent pharmacies,” Mr. Bishop said.

ABOUT SPAR

Small business Pharmacies Aligned for Reform (SPAR) is a group of Floridian neighborhood pharmacists and other advocates focused stopping anti-competitive practices that PBMs use to short circuit the free market while placing additional burdens on patients and pharmacists. Simpson Spotlights a More Connected Approach to Memory Care for Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

WEST GROVE, Pa., June 25, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — As Americans live longer, conversations about positive aging and brain health are becoming increasingly important. During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, Simpson, a family of retirement communities in Pennsylvania, is helping normalize these discussions through educational programs and resources that empower individuals and families to approach memory care with greater understanding, confidence, and hope.

Residents and care team members from Simpson Meadows' neighborhoods
Image caption: Residents and care team members from Simpson Meadows’ neighborhoods recently attended a Phillies game together, reflecting the community’s commitment to connection, engagement, and belonging at every stage of aging.

Simpson’s Jenner’s Pond in West Grove and Simpson Meadows in Downingtown are Life Plan Communities that offer independent living, assisted living, memory care residences, rehabilitation and respite care.

The memory care programming at both communities has earned the prestigious Comfort Matters® accreditation, marking Simpson the first provider in Pennsylvania and one of only 43 worldwide to achieve the distinction. The accreditation recognizes Simpson’s commitment to providing person-directed dementia care that prioritizes comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being for individuals living with dementia.

At Simpson Meadows, memory care residents regularly take part in group outings, such as attending a recent Philadelphia Phillies game, fishing at a local fish hatchery, bowling, and miniature golf, led by Executive Director Tim McCracken.

“One of the things that’s very important at Simpson Meadows is fostering and cultivating a community that isn’t segregated by where people are in their lives. Residents from our memory care neighborhood are invited to join us on our outings and community events,” said McCracken.

From daily engagement and social connection to family education and specialized support, Simpson’s approach helps reduce fear and stigma while giving families practical guidance for the road ahead.

“Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia touch millions of families, including my own,” said Dr. Carol McKinley, President and CEO of Simpson. “Through the thoughtful care and programming in our Simpson communities, we provide reassurance to residents and family members. We want to help people see memory support as part of the continuum of healthy aging and an opportunity to enhance safety, engagement, and quality of life. Greater understanding leads to better care, stronger support, and more compassionate communities for those living with dementia and the people who care for them.”

As part of its person-directed care model, Simpson communities use Amba, a passive, AI-enabled health monitoring solution that provides insights to help identify and prevent infections, falls, and hospitalizations. Because the technology does not record video or audio, it supports resident privacy while delivering meaningful health data.

The HeyAmba interface is accessible on a phone or tablet and allows care teams to quickly obtain resident updates through simple questions. For example, caregivers can review a resident’s sleep score from the previous night, track changes over time, and identify emerging patterns that may indicate a health concern. This passive monitoring helps support timely interventions while allowing residents to maintain their preferred daily routines.

McCracken said Amba serves as an extension of the Simpson care team, helping team members spend more time focused on resident care while also identifying changes that may signal elevated risk of falls or infections. Simpson also uses HeyAmba’s data to keep families informed and provide valuable insights for clinicians.

“It’s a continuation of our care philosophy,” McCracken said. “By alerting us when a resident gets out of bed, we can intervene and potentially prevent a fall. We can also monitor behavioral changes that may signal an infection before symptoms develop.”

Together, Simpson’s accredited memory care programming, family education, and supportive technology reflect a broader commitment to helping residents live with dignity, connection, and comfort at every stage of aging.

ABOUT SIMPSON

Since 1865, Simpson has met the changing needs and desires of Pennsylvania area seniors from diverse backgrounds as a not-for-profit family of services consisting of three Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs): Simpson House, Simpson Meadows and Jenner’s Pond; three affordable senior living communities: Simpson Gardens I, Simpson Gardens II, and Simpson Midtown; as well as Simpson HomeCare and Simpson Rehabilitation. Accepted, Not Denied, Never Decided: California Ferret Petition Remains Unresolved After 378 Days

Petitioners say State's inaction has left them with fewer rights than if the petition had been denied

LA MESA, Calif., June 25, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Three hundred seventy-eight days after the California Fish and Game Commission unanimously voted to give further consideration to a petition seeking removal of domestic ferrets from California’s restricted species list, the petition remains unresolved, says Legalize Ferrets (Legalizeferrets.org).

Dino pauses for a photo while exploring his favorite room in the house - the laundry room. More than a year after California regulators voted to consider Petition 2025-003, the petition remains unresolved.
Photo caption: Dino pauses for a photo while exploring his favorite room in the house – the laundry room. More than a year after California regulators voted to consider Petition 2025-003, the petition remains unresolved.

No recommendation has been issued. No determination has been provided to the petitioner. No final action has been taken.

Petitioners argue that the result is a procedural dead end: had the petition been denied, they could have sought judicial review. Instead, the petition was accepted and referred for evaluation, but remains unresolved more than a year later.

“The unusual part of this case is that acceptance of the petition appears to have left us with fewer practical remedies than a denial would have,” said Pat Wright, founder of LegalizeFerrets.org. “Had the petition been rejected, we could have challenged that decision. Instead, it was accepted, referred, and then left unresolved.”

A PETITION ACCEPTED BUT NEVER DECIDED

On June 11, 2025, the Fish and Game Commission voted unanimously to give further consideration to Petition 2025-003 and referred the matter to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for evaluation.

Had the Commission denied the petition, petitioners could have pursued available legal remedies. Had the petition proceeded through the normal administrative process, the Department would have completed its review and returned a recommendation to the Commission.

Instead, 378 days later, the petition remains pending without a final determination.

Petitioners contend that the State’s inaction has created a situation in which the administrative process has stalled while no final agency decision exists for a court to review.

PUBLIC RECORDS RAISE ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS

Seeking to understand the status of the petition, petitioners submitted multiple requests under the California Public Records Act.

In response to an April 2026 records request, the Department reported that no responsive records existed. A later records request produced internal documents showing the petition was known to Department personnel and appeared on an internal petitions agenda.

Meeting notes from an April 29, 2026 petitions meeting show discussion of several petitions. The notation for the ferret petition states only: “No discussion.”

Records produced to date have revealed no documented recommendation, evaluation, or analysis of Petition 2025-003.

Additional records revealed litigation-hold communications relating to the petition and subsequent litigation.

THE QUESTION BEFORE THE COURT

The litigation does not ask the court to legalize ferrets.

Instead, the case seeks judicial review of whether state agencies have fulfilled their legal obligations after accepting a petition for consideration.

According to filings in the case, the State argues that petitioners generally must await final agency action before seeking judicial review. Petitioners argue that because no final action has ever been taken, they have been left in procedural limbo—unable to obtain a decision from the agency while simultaneously being told there is no final decision to challenge.

“The question extends beyond ferrets,” Wright said. “If an agency can accept a petition and then simply never complete the process, the public’s right to petition government becomes largely meaningless. Citizens should be entitled to an answer.”

TIMELINE

June 11, 2025
Fish and Game Commission votes unanimously to give further consideration to Petition 2025-003 and refers it to the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

April 2026
Department responds to a Public Records Act request stating that no responsive records exist.

May–June 2026
Additional Public Records Act requests produce internal records, petitions meeting notes, and litigation-hold communications.

March 19, 2026
Petitioners file a writ action in Sacramento County Superior Court seeking judicial intervention.

June 24, 2026
Petition remains unresolved 378 days after referral.

ABOUT THE PETITION

Petition 2025-003 seeks removal of domestic ferrets from California’s restricted species list. Domestic ferrets are legal pets in 48 states. California remains one of only two states that prohibit private ownership.

Wyoming-founded food truck company celebrates a decade of growth with a permanent location in Johnstown, Colorado

JOHNSTOWN, Colo., June 23, 2026 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — On The Hook Fish & Chips today announced the opening of its first permanent dine-in experience in Johnstown, Colorado. The Wyoming-founded company chose June 27 for the grand opening to commemorate two milestones in its history: serving guests in 27 states and operating 27 food trucks nationwide.

Located at 4884 Larimer Pkwy, Johnstown, CO 80534, the new location offers guests a new way to enjoy the On The Hook experience while remaining true to the company’s roots. Beginning June 27, the location will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Founded in 2016 in Laramie, Wyoming, by University of Wyoming students, On The Hook Fish & Chips began with a simple mission: to serve high-quality, line-caught fish and chips in communities with limited access to fresh seafood. What started as a single food truck has grown into a company serving guests across 27 states, operating 27 trucks, and serving more than 7 million meals.

“The opening of our first dine-in experience is an exciting milestone for everyone who has helped build On The Hook over the past decade,” said Ocean Andrew, CEO of On The Hook Fish & Chips. “While we’ve grown far beyond our first truck in Wyoming, our commitment remains the same: serving high-quality seafood, creating memorable guest experiences, and staying connected to the communities we serve.”

The new dine-in experience represents an important chapter in the company’s history while preserving the qualities that have defined On The Hook from the beginning: simple menus, responsibly sourced seafood, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

Guests can expect the same line-caught fish, signature sauces, and familiar menu items that have made On The Hook a favorite for nearly 10 years, now offered in a welcoming space designed for families, friends, and the local community.

Community members are invited to join the celebration and help mark the beginning of this new chapter for On The Hook Fish & Chips.

HOURS OF OPERATION
Monday – Saturday: 11 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
